Until Dawn cover

Stupid teenagers. Stupid teenagers doing sex stuff while ignoring the hidden terrors around them and being blissfully unaware that their lives are about to be cut shorter than than my attempt at 15 seconds of fame on the X-Factor. Thing is, it’s hard being an attractive person/cliché in a horror movie. What, you think being the lovable weed-smoker is an easy role? That takes training! And dedication! The kind of dedication that you’ll need to survive the night in Until Dawn.

The upcoming Choose-Your-Own-Death-Adventure from Supermassive Games finally has a release date: August 26. If you’ve got no idea what game I’m talking about, then here’s the skinny on Until Dawn. It’s a survival-horror game where players need to make some hard ethical and moral choices in order to allow at least one person in their party of eight to survive being axed a system. Of course, doing that ain’t easy, as the game needs to be played through multiple times in order to get the most out of the butterfly effect system that impacts on the decisions that you make in the game. This also means that the auto-save setting in the game has been tweaked, so there’s no rolling back to handle things differently during any one playthrough.

Of course, they’re all just a bunch of pixels to me and any choice that I’ve ever made has been poorly thought out, so I’m expecting these cast of leftovers from Dawson’s Creek to get chopped up within minutes of me starting Until Dawn. Yeah, I’m a horrible person as well. You don’t even want to see how I played Black and White and turned my village into a cult of human-sacrificing worshippers. Here’s a bunch of screens of the game, featuring new digital actor acquisition Peter Stormare:

  1. Ahh Teenage Slasher movies. Pablo Francisco said it best “these teenagers are so dumb you can strangle them with a cordless phone” XD

I’m not sold on this fame. It looks iffy and unpolished last time I saw it. Hopefully E3 will show some new footage to up the hype.

Of course. Blue, kinda nice looking, blue. Exotic. Is interesting that in the game her species is seen as sexy exotic by the humans and other species. I would say, from a design point of view, job done by whoever designed the species. And this coming from me who reads far too many Sci-fi books.

Ah, but I saved both. Had to be.

BUT, if I had to choose, Legion wins. Legion came across as sentient and human in those scenes in ME3, Tali and her people did not. I lost the affection for them to a large degree

Yeah. Turns out the Quarians are the biggest douches in the galaxy. But I would have to be honest: Kal-Reegar should have been a team member in ME3.

I’m intrigued… Nothing quite like being inside an actual slasher film… And the facial renders are really good. But let’s wait and see what the actual game is like… With Umar on this – looked a little unrefined last time it was shown. Hopefully it’ll be much better when inevitably shown off at E3 this year.

Now I want a choose your own adventure game! Wow, just like the books from days of old. Imagine, you could be like, I want to go that room where the noise is AND instead of having to turn to page 35 you could just open the door and look. I want a choose your own adventure game (trademark probably) where the choices are meaningful and have a lasting impact on me, the player or reader.

This does not sound like much fun to me. At the least the choices in this game MEAN something, which is pretty cool. Can someone send the team that wrote parts of Mass Effect 3 this link? When I kill the insecty queen, I do not expect to see a clone in the 3rd game, I expect to see no insecty queen. Else my initial choice meant nothing.

Anyone else read this Choose Your Own Adventure books? I got bored by the time I was about 8 (read Lord of the Rings then), but it was fun while it lasted.

The choose your own adventures were one of the few books I read as a young kid, along with puzzle adventures and comics. Then I got hold of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings that was when I properly got into reading.

Hey me too. I read Lord of the rings around 8 or 9 and I read Clan of the Cave bear (um, sex not understood nor the rape scenes) at much closer to age 8. Loved books. Was voracious. Read ANYTHING. Even a mills & boon to see what it was like. I got change out an hour and WAS bored.
*edit* my gran made me read the “classics”. I did not enjoy that, even Jules Verne.

I loved reading, truly. I view my playing games like Witcher, Kotor and stuff and lazy / effortless reading at times.

My wife is the same, will read just about anything and can just fly through books. I love reading but can’t claim to love it to extent that I’d read ANYTHING. I tend to stick to fantasy and Sci-fi. I agree that playing games like Witcher, etc is similar to reading and is interactive. Still not as lazy as just vegging and watching TV, although for some this might be good to get a break, I find it hard to get into series or even finish watching most movies these days. Games and books are fine as entertainment for me.

One has the right to be fussy. Although I think if I had more time I’d be less fussy. Slow doesn’t matter, as long as time spent is well spent.
