Sony’s PlayStation 4, very much unlike Microsoft’s Xbox One, doesn’t force a camera peripheral on users. Why is that?
On the one hand, that means that developers won’t be as keen to implement camera hijinks on the PS4 as they would on the Xbox One, which has Kinect included with every single system – but on the other, it means the PS4 is cheaper to buy – and that’s just one of the reasons Sony opted to keep the camera out of the package.
the other reason, according to Sony’s Andrew House, is that early adopter just don’t give a damn about that sort of fluffy peripheral.
“Certainly for the earlier part of the lifecycle, the vast majority of the audience that we speak to tells us that their primary wish is for the full controller interface and there’s not necessarily a huge emphasis being placed on camera interaction,” he said in an interview with Australia’s Business Spectator.
Is he right? Those of you getting a PS4 at launch; do you give two hoots about the PS Eye? Do you think not including it was a smart decision, or will Microsoft’s decision to bundle Kinect end up working in their favour?
For those that are keen on the PS4 camera, Sony will be bundling the thing in the future – and there are bundles available for pre-order in Europe already that include the device – though there’s no word on when they’ll be available here in South Africa.

I couldn’t care less about the camera. It won’t be worth the extra money even in the long run. The camera’s will, to me anyways, never be more than a gimmick… Just give me my DS4 and I’m happy.

Ditto here dude, can’t ever see myself buying the camera its something for kiddies, I want a controller in my hands on my lap on the comfy couch in the man cave

I agree. If they can bring something really impressive with the camera, I will buy it, but not at this stage. Also if there is something impressive that will change the way I play games, it must not be a once off thing.

Yeah for sure but it will have to be really impressive for me, I just don’t want to play my games by waving my arms around, I’m lazy and hopelessly inert once I get into a good session

I stare at it… not the other way around. And it will bring the cost down that is a big plus.
Still hope that whole PSP Vita bundle comes true.

It is not bundled because they are not ass hats. The customer is more important and what better way to win over a SALE than by giving the customer CHOICE.
Microsoft failed on so many levels this year. From the firing of DEAL WITH IT MAN to the 180 and shitty NEGATIVE nickname of the console.
MANDATORY should never be used in any sales pitch. Kinect 2 FAIL.

Microsoft do give you a choice, buy the xbox one or not. Same way you have a choice not to buy the new iPhone because you cant get the phone without the camera.

Indeed. It should not be bundled.
If the Kinect is such a good, compelling piece of kit which improves your experience as much as Microsoft says it does, people would buy it even it was optional.
Let the hardware speak for itself and don’t force it down our throats.

Another dust collector. Having kids I purchased the Eye Toy for PS2 and it got very limited use. Not learning from this mistake, I picked up a Kinect shortly after release and it’s use waned fairly quickly as well with the kids rather playing Wii games.

They preferred the wii damn. Ps move I tried, was pretty impressed with it actually.

The Wii had far superior games available for their controllers and I had nothing to do with their choices, so yeah, proof/pudding and all that. I personally loved Metroid, Zelda and Super Mario Bros but I’m a relic from a bygone era.

I guess so, but I have to admit the Mario games and Zelda games all have that something special about them that brings you to your childhood memories. lol

Nothing wrong with that. Here’s a pic of a toy my old man built for me 10 yrs ago. I did the design and and tech install but he built it from scratch. Wooden cabinet built around an X-Arcade stick I had to import via a visiting employee from X-Arcade in America. Has over 20 000 titles loaded for MAME, NES, SNES & Megadrive.

Thx. Like I said, I am a bit of a retro retard. Nothing like cranking up an original I used to love and giving it a solid play, Elevator Action FTW!

Playing the classic arcade games would be sweet! Now if only I had one like yours but with guns and house of the dead and time crisis! Those games would EPIC!

Work from home mostly so yes. Seriously though it is running in MAME with mouse support and a crosshair. Pretty sweet even if not as cool as the pedal and gun.

because of this developers wont utilize the XB1’s spynetic, as most games are multiplatform and xbox owners can look forward to more of these exclusives.
Notice how Kinetic gimmics over top actual games

80% of people do not care a less about this stupid eye thing, that sensor thing. Not to mention the fact that SONY are giving us a choice. Yes, they won’t have the developers hooked like Xbone but quite frankly if the WiiU has done one thing that is it has shown that most developers, even given a great chance, can’t offer us something we cannot live without…

Dude you know the real reason why they made the Kinect to be shipped with Xbone, Cause they need to exercise more in the U.S!!! hahahaha

Must say I got the stupid move for the PS3. Played about one game with it and now it gathers dust. Only bring it out if I allow the nephews near the console (and I hold my brother liable for any damage caused) and that’s one a year at best.
I can’t see that I will get it if I ever go for the PS4.

I don’t give a hoot about the camera, but if it is included in a bundle with a game and maybe an additional DS4, at a decent price….score!
