As a badass Asian killer with a penchant for pork buns and a disposition for seeing women exactly twice before leaving them for somebody else, I really related to Sleeping Dogs. United Front Games and Square Enix’s triad-focused open-world game was a surprise hit – and though it didn’t do enough business to meet Square Enix’s unrealistically high expectations, it looks it’s getting a sequel.
In a brief post on their site, United Front Games confirmed that the recent trademarks indeed pointed to a new game set in the Sleeping Dogs universe, Called Sleeping Dogs: Triad Wars
We don’t know, at all, what kind of game it’ll be or what platforms it’ll grace – just that’s coming, at some point, and that it’ll be published by Square once again.
“So, we’re making a new game! We can’t say a lot about it right now, but you might have read about a trademark registration for something called Triad Wars? Well, we’re super-excited that it’s another game based in the Sleeping Dogs universe, it’s something we’ve wanted to do for ages, and we’re very happy to be working with Square Enix again… but that’s all we can give you for the time being – we’ll have more information about what the game’s going to be in 2014.”
Sleeping Dogs managed to do a quite a few things that similar games don’t – like manage to have a tight, focused narrative despite being open world. It also had proper melee combat, making the action more visceral and satisfying than we’d expected.
I hope this is a proper new game (preferably for next gen) and not something bound for tablets and smartphones, like Deus Ex: The Fall.

It’s awesome! It trumps similar games on so many levels, and ignoring the hype GTA 5 has received (as always), I’d even say that Sleeping Dogs gives Rockstar’s latest title a run for its money.
Just a pity it was an unknown title from an unknown developer who was saddled with a hated publisher. Hopefully, the sequel will maintain what made it so awesome, and get the sales it deserved.

I have a feeling the second one will sell much better. Simply because fans like you and me are already on board, and we’ll be hyping it up for the other people.
Strange, but there were certain parts in Sleeping Dogs that I enjoyed more than GTA V.

Yeah, GTA V made me appreciate Sleeping Dogs more. But I think it makes sense since you have these high expectations for a GTA game, and similar games tend to get measured up against those expectations – rather than reality.
While GTA V dwarves Sleeping Dogs in scale and content, gameplay-wise and even story-wise, Sleeping Dogs was the better game. Such a pity, GTA V doesn’t have a dojo for my online char… hehehe!

Totally agree! Brilliant game. Played all the DLC too – very addictive gameplay.
Was Game of the Year 2012 material in my eyes!

I hope not… I really… hope not! I absolutely HATE F2P, that and cloud-based gaming are going to kill gaming. Just you watch!

I can vouch for Sleeping Dogs as well, I finished it about a month ago and still hop in for the side mission now and then. I didn’t play gta V yet but can guarantee you its much better than GTA IV. The only openworld game with a better story was Mafia II.
I tried play GTA IV again this weekend and for some reason it bores the shit out of me.

So far, I haven’t been dissapointed by a @JimLenoir:disqus recommendation. So go for it. I have two games he liked in my queue. Ni Nu Kuni and the highly rated (4/10) Dragon’s Dogma. You can seldom go wrong with something that has the Banana Jim Seal of Approval.

TRUE CRIME HONG KONG (Sleeping Dogs) is a little gem. If only they had 6 years and $265 million. That make me love you long long time with happy happy ending.

Great news.
I hope they keep what made the first one great: atmosphere, great music, superb voice acting, and interesting story/characters.
Wei Shen had a lot of charisma and was more enjoyable to play than any GTA gangster.

What? Only twice? So no traveling blonde in my future? FFS I liked her! Tiffany was a drag though. Love the combat, and will definitely buy a sequel.
