Metacritic, that fine repository of reviews has run the numbers, and compiled a list of the “best†video game publishers in 2010, according to Metacritic scores and averages.
With an average of 77.1 across its 40 releases last year, the number one publisher is Take Two, who brought you our game of the year, Red Dead Redemption. As a matter of fact, the publisher didn’t release a single game that was poorly received – its lowest ranked game, Major League Baseball 2K10 for the Wii received a middling 52.
Second – and the only other publisher on the list whose overall rating was “good†was Nintendo, who scored 76.1across 39 titles. It’s to be expected, because generally when Nintendo puts its name on something, it’s of esteemed quality. Super Mario Galaxy 2 was actually the highest rated game of the last year, with a Metacritic average of 97.
Capcom came in third, also not garnering any negative reviews, with most of their big hitters for the year being what the company does best; fighting games. Super Street Fighter IV and Tatsunoko vs Capcom were its biggest winners, helping the publisher score an average of 74.1
Microsoft and EA nabbed spots 4 and 5, pipping Activision to the post.
