Are you amped for Legacy of the Void? You should be, especially after playing Whispers of Oblivion. What, you haven’t played it? There is absolutely no excuse – the prologue to the last piece of the StarCraft II trilogy is now free for everybody! If you’re too lazy and couldn’t be bothered to check it out, well, you can read my preview instead if you like.
Point is, and I’m sorry for force feeding it to you, is that Legacy of the Void promises to be rather good, and it should definitely be on your radar, especially if you’re a fan of Blizzard or RTS titles in general. If you’re already all aboard the hype train with me, good news, you can start pre-downloading the game today! Well, kinda…
you may notice that the Battle.net desktop app will begin downloading data for a future patch. This download is in preparation for the November 10 launch of Legacy of the Void and will help ensure that players can begin playing the game as soon as possible upon its release.
The download will be around 5GB in size and include things like models, textures, art files, and other upcomingLegacy of the Void content that is already complete. By making this data available early, you’ll have less to download once Legacy of the Void is released.
The background download is encrypted and won’t make any changes to the live game or Battle.net service until Legacy of the Void is released. In the meantime, you will be able to play StarCraft II as normal, and your in-game experience should remain unaffected by the download.
So yeah, it’s not the full game, but rather, most of its assets. What this means is that when launch day swings by, there is less of a download wait to endure.
I’m all for that, especially considering that our Internet in South Africa tends to be more shoddy and likely to fall apart than your average Deathstroke cosplay from Darryn. OOOOH SHOTS FIRED!

Well, clever. No stories about not being to download on day 1 then. Sorted. Wonder if the servers will be beefed up for actual gameplay on day 1
