We’re edging closer and closer to another wave of virtual reality hardware. Headsets like the Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus are supposed to enhance our gaming experiences, providing a closer, more immersive look at the game world we’re playing in. Now that doesn’t exactly have to apply exclusively to gaming. At the very least, Team Tekken knows exactly what I’m talking about.
There have been some interesting demos for Sony’s take on VR hardware, such as exploring the ocean without getting wet, but Team Tekken has taken this to another level of creepy. In their own Morpheus demo, named Summer Lesson, player will be able to interact with a Japanese school girl in her bedroom. An interactive tour of her room, if you will all stop giggling.
The girl asks players question, to which they can nod yes or no to. She allows you to freely explore her room – you can even drop items only to watch the girl pick them up. She also pulls back when the player’s viewing angles get a little bit too curious.
It’s honestly extremely weird and creepy, and definitely something that does seem as innocent as Team Tekken wants to to be. Regardless, the demo is going to be playable at the Tokyo Game Show later this month, where thousands can see how quickly they get booted from the booth for not playing the game correctly.
You can check it out in action below, at around the 55-minute mark.

Does anyone else get reminded of this:

Showing my age; but the uses people had for that SQUID headset are eerily similar, if obvious.

This looks cool. I hope they used realistic tentacle physics though, bit immersion breaking otherwise.
