Last Week, Star Wars: Battlefront was released – bringing fans of the original trilogy their best chance of experiencing key moments from the franchise. If you like blasters and stormtroopers and Darth Vader, it’s probably just the thing for you, unless you also require silly things like “depth” and “balance” in your shooters.
Thanks to its legacy and the IP to which it’s attached, Star Wars: Battlefront is indeed doing pretty well (Despite being, to some, a load of bantha poodoo) – and it makes sense, Star Wars is always going to be popular, especially with all of the Force Awakens hype in full swing. It may or may not be surprising to you that it’s most popular on Sony’s console.
According to a third party tracker, the number of people playing Battlefront on the PlayStation 4 is higher than the number of people playing it on the Xbox One and PC combined. The information, the tracker says, isn’t estimated. Instead, it’s pulled directly from EA’s servers, so it’s about as accurate as its gets.
According to the tracker, there (are at time of writing) 120,744 people playing the game. Of those, 71,187 are playing on the PlayStation Four, 37,336 are playing on Xbox One, and just 12,221 are playing on PC. In the last 24 hours, the peak numbers for each platform were 183,329, 104,993 and 48,292 respectively. In both situations, the PlayStation 4’s tally was higher than the combined numbers for the other platforms.
While the player disparity between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One isn’t particularly surprising given the respective player bases for each console, the low number of PC players is a little. The game looks and runs far better on PC, and unlike many recent releases mostly works without the need for gargantuan patches. It is, however, missing a few things that PC gamers deem necessary; things like mod support and server browsers.
What is does highlight a little though, is perhaps why publishers tend to focus on console games and PC gamers so often end up with the short end of the stick.

What’s the conclusion here?
Sony sold more consoles?
Xbox One has a higher attach rate(as PS4 is supposedly outselling Xbox One 3-1?)
PS4 has no exclusives?
More PS4’s out there than PC’s?
PS4 really is the new Brostation and casual gamer choice?
Battlefront is a good game? *cough cough
Sony paid for rights to market the hell out of a crappy game and the ponies are eating it up?

Still can’t believe that Fallout 4 is 75%-100% more expensive on Steam than at retail. Switching Steam to Rand is clearly not working well since they have no idea how to price the games now.

I went from a very one dimensional gamer to a try everything type player thanks to my friends. Back in the day, I would never have given the likes of Mass Effect and Diablo the time of day. For me it was always Doom and Doom-esque type games. Even today, I still find pleasantly surprising franchises. The Witcher is a prime example. Tried 5 minutes of the Witcher 2 and wrote it off. Gave the Witcher 3 a proper go and I loved the hell out of it. Yep, The cynic thing is what put me off reading reviewers articles. Nag got pretty hectic with the cynical view of things.

Ok, so many articles ask why are there more players for game X on console, cause PC version looks and plays better.
Well, time to face it. It seems, for certain genre games at least, the majority prefer console. Why? I can only hazard a guess and speak from my own experiences. Less hassle.
Good to see the game being played, glad people, who are not me, are enjoying it. Is it star wars?
Captain JJ the Goo
November 23, 2015 at 10:33
I think more casual players are also on console. None of the pc gamers I’ve spoken have any interest in Battlefront. One of the reason’s being that it’s dumbed down. I tend to agree.

Darren Peach

I know PLENTY people who have never finished BF4’s campaign and I’m guessing COD is the same. If they did do the campaign it is because they wanted an unlock for multiplayer.
I have no issue with a $60 multiplayer game although the season pass is a bit steep, will wait for a special on that. Although I think it’s kinda weird how the internet has gone mental over its season pass where other games have been the same, but were spared the outrage.
P.S. They didn’t strip away the Star Wars, which obviously amplifies the awesome =P
