There are a bunch of reasons that I’m excited for Dragon Age: Inquisition. The story-telling from Bioware has always been fantastic, but I’m also keen for all the extra RPG and tactical elements of the game. The war table is one such element, and it is sort of making me giddy to think about.
In a Bioware Q&A, producer Cameron Lee answered some questions about the war table and the role of the advisors. At the War Table, players have three primary advisors: Leliana, Cullen and Josephine. They lead a contingent of agents and represent the three pillars of power: espionage, military and politics. Of course, each agent has an area of expertise:
Leliana is the leader of your agents who uncover secrets, assassinate enemies, and sabotage your enemy’s organization. Cullen leads your military, so he’s focused on building your army and training and equipping your forces so you can use them as a hammer against the Elder One. Josephine uses political power and diplomacy to advance your Inquisition’s cause. Each of the advisors will want to approach challenges in different ways, but it’s your choice about which action to take.
Players earn influence and power as they explore, overcome enemies, complete quests and close rifts. That influence and power is then spent at the war table when you send agents on an operation or being a new major story plot. Operations have various rewards ranging from gold and rare crafting materials to equipment, recruits and even rebuilding structures you’ve seen on your adventures. How do these operations work?
There are over 300 missions and operations available on the war table, and they can change depending on your previous choices and actions in the game. There’s a range of types: scouting missions to establish the first camp in a new area you’d like to explore, building missions to raise structures in the areas you’ve being exploring, recruitment missions to bring expertise into the inquisition, treaties, resource-gathering, political assassinations, and many, many more.

2 months 1 day until I can start downloading and 2 months 3 days until I can start playing.
That’s not that long.
62 days until I can start downloading and 64 days until I can start playing.
Oh god it’s such a long wait.

Neverwinter nights 2 was really fun when you got your keep.
Back to roots, this stuff. Original D&D, at ninth (higher? level you got a keep, thieves guild or whatever, depending on class.

BW = Masters of hype.
DA 2 had the hype to make any fantasy fan ending up selling his child to get their hands on a early copy.
Result: Fans were outraged with how linear it was with just one big city to explorer and little to nothing else but to be a an errand boy. Some even went as far as bashing creators on the BW social forums where some “fans” even gave death threats to BW staff involved with the project. NICE!
Mass Effect 3… Oh LORD this game’s hype was like INSANE promising phenomenal not to mention multiple different endings depending on the decisions your Sheppard made where quotes like belowe were in in multiple arguments.
“It’s not like a classic game ending where everything is linear and you make a choice between a few things – it really does layer in many, many different choices…”
-Casey Hudson
Result: Fans took to the forums complaining about the RGB endings and lack of closure they were promised pre release. Some even went as far as creating theories which future DLCs never stated as true or false. Destroying a franchise they dont know how to continue loosing many fans as the months went on after release.
I’m a glass half full kinda guy, but BW has had too many bad rep and the past to make this a day one for me.
