The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is, without a doubt, one of my most anticipated titles of this new generation. Despite the early 2015 release date, the Witcher 3 wasn’t playable at this year’s rAge Expo, although CD Projekt RED was there to show off all the new features on stage. One of those happened to be the game’s refined approach to combat, which builds on the previous system quite well.
That’s according to Fabian Doehla, communications manager at CD Projekt RED. I had the chance to sit down with him and completely geek out over The Witcher 3, while also managing to ask some of the questions I really wanted answers to. The most important had to be about the combat. The Witcher 2 was known for notoriously difficult combat early on, which potentially scared players away before they actually became invested. That’s not happening this time,
New menus, better weapon handling and an improved Witcher Sense are all being combined to make The Witcher 3’s combat a little bit better. That will come in handy too, since the open-world Geralt finds himself in is pretty damn dangerous. Despite being completely open from the start, some areas will be inaccessible due to massive, overpowered creatures in the area, who are just waiting to tear apart a new and unprepared monster hunter.
Being the final chapter in CD Projekt RED’s acclaimed trilogy, The Witcher 3 will also offer some exciting narrative twists that some players might not see coming. The Witcher 3 is just as dark as the previous titles, featuring even more morally ambiguous choices that you’ll probably regret making a few hours down the line. The game will also feature multiple endings, which vary quite drastically based on your decisions throughout all three games.
This isn’t a game you’re going to be finishing quickly either, with Fabian describing The Witcher 3 as not only the biggest game they’ve ever made, but the biggest RPG of our time. That makes me even more excited for the launch in February next year.

I like this. Not some silly mechanic of “NO DON’T GO HERE YET”

They do this in the Souls series, only there is really no way to know which way to go at the start.

Yes. Like the first time you walk into one of the caves surrounding the Imperial City in Oblivion after just escaping the dungeon. Vanilla it’s easy, try it after installing Oscuro’s Overhaul mod and you get your assed handed to you by a group of Amazons.

isn’t it weird how when it comes to sword play ME: SOM feels so much superior to Witcher 3? I’m not talking about the animated finishers, but the raw melee combat when you attack and counter. I feel the heavy attacks of Geralt looks like some dance moves in Witcher 3……

Looks marvellous, and it’ll give me an excuse to play the first two. Started the first game but those combat animations were a tad jarring – particularly the way Gerault held his sword overhead, like a fishwife going to hit her drunken husband with a broom.

I’m tired of the “Detective vision”, “Thief view”, “Witcher vision”, spidey sense crap. The idea went from a boring game mechanic to show you where enemies or puzzle pieces are to a fool’s crutch. It feels like lazy development for lazy gamers (present company excluded)
