Dragon Age: Inquisition is almost here; only about a month to go until we get our hands on possibly one of the best experiences ever created by Bioware. But not everyone has played the game that started the franchise, and now you can – at absolutely no cost.
The EA Origin On The House program has previously given away such notable games as Battlefield 4 and The Sims 2. Now it’s time to help build even more excitement for Dragon Age: Inquisition by giving away Origins for free. That’s right, over on Origin you can pick up Dragon Age: Origins on PC without spending any cash. Obviously, this offer won’t last forever. So, you might as well link the game to your Origin account, even if you’re not sure if you’ll want to play it just yet. The offer only lasts until 14 October 2014, so be sure to grab it before it’s gone.
We sort of knew this was coming, right? I mean, this is the new tool at EA’s disposal. The On The House program is awesome for getting people excited about older titles, and as a result can help build excitement for new iterations in the franchise. However, it’s a win-win set up for everyone; players get a game for free while EA gets to reignite passion for a franchise.
Have you been grabbing the free games from Origin? When I picked this one up I realized that I’ve actually “ordered” all of them, but I haven’t installed any because of that whole Origin on PC stigma. I already played Dragon Age: Origins on console, but it can’t hurt to have it on multiple platforms, right?

Its not like they werent selling it for R25 befor.
R25 saving on a game isnt all that much compared to steam sales 😛
also, the game hasnt aged well at all =/
tried to finish it recently, but games just so old.

I tried to play it this week actually. It really has not aged well.

I played 20 minutes before I quit. (I will admit that I don’t enjoy DA Origins’ gameplay at all either)

Played from 8:30 PM on Monday until 2:00 AM.
The game is still freaking fantastic.

personally found it unplayable.
managed to last a couple of hours, but was pushing myself.
combat is just so stiff. and controls are super janky.
combined with how low your base stats are compared to the baddies, it was a real pain.

I could handle the controls but shit some of the voice acting is horrific, “oh no a dragon”.

I disagree, played it last year to completion. Sure it took some getting used to but after the first hour it was business as usual.

I think I just really don’t enjoy that gameplay, plus there’s zero controller support on pc.

Just use something like Pinnacle Game Profiler. It really works very well.
Captain JJ Underleyened
October 9, 2014 at 10:41
I use Xpadder, which is great. But the problem with DA on pc is that you have to click on someone to attack them. So you end up using your right stick to navigate a mouse pointer, which is just tedious.
Travis

Oh I see.

I hope DA:I is not like that.
Captain JJ Underleyened
October 9, 2014 at 10:56
Me too. Lately a lot of people don’t even buy RPG games if they don’t have controller support. For some games like Torchlight I don’t mind, but other times it’s just nice to sit back and wander the fields of a fantasy world.
Matthew Holliday
October 9, 2014 at 11:08
it shouldnt be, the PS3 controls for DA2 were pretty smooth.
thats one thing that DA2 got right, combat was good, a little more hack and slash like, but really fluid.

October 9, 2014 at 11:07
thats a real dealbreaker recently.
cant imagine playing shadow of mordor on pc without my xbox controller.
Captain JJ Underleyened
October 9, 2014 at 11:10
Absolutely. Specifically for these types of games I almost get turned off the game if it doesn’t have full controller support.
Matthew Holliday
October 9, 2014 at 11:13
its the whole reason I decided to upgrade my pc, instead of getting one of the new consoles.
batman, assassins creed, racing games etc, all those games are infinitely better with a controller.
Captain JJ Underleyened
October 9, 2014 at 11:16
Agreed. I can’t do racing games with a KB since there is zero sensitivity. I’m yet to play Assassins Creed on my PC (got one for free, but haven’t gotten around to it yet). Batman was excellent with a controller. Even Skyrim.
Matthew Holliday
October 9, 2014 at 11:22
assassins creed was playable with keyboard, but was a bit wooden. the earlier games made good use of left and right click for combat.
skyrim i usually played as an archer, so i played with my keyboard, cant aim for shit with a controller.
but batman and stuff that needs combo fighting really needs a controller.
Captain JJ Underleyened
October 9, 2014 at 11:23
Same here. I’m doing an archer playthrough on Skyirm now and using KB and Mouse.

Must say Origin is starting to soften up to me. After receiving a few good free games “on the house” I might start to open the little bugger a bit more frequently.
Matthew Holliday
October 9, 2014 at 09:56
screw the free games.
the twice as fast download speeds are crazy.
my 2mb downloads at 400kb/s with origin.
Ottokie
October 9, 2014 at 09:58
I know what you mean, my 4mb line usually cruises at around 800kbs on Origin 😛

i would love to know what magic they use to make your line speed twice as fast as it should be.

October 9, 2014 at 10:34
I’m guessing they have a deal with Telkom and others. a 4Mbps line can carry up to 10mbps, I can upgrade at any time, but the cost moneys for such an endeavour….
Mighty Meh
October 9, 2014 at 10:58
Origin games are compressed during downloads so you are downloading less than it indicates but the download rate is worked back from the shown download size.
Its a bit of a sneaky marketing gimmick in my opinion because they easily could have shown when you install the game that the download will be “x”gigs and the install would be “y” gigs
Matthew Holliday
October 9, 2014 at 11:05
thought it might be something like that.
still, pretty effective.
doesnt seem too reliable though, oftentimes if you pause, the DL is completely lost.
although its been quite some time since ive tried it out, not sure if theyv fixed that or not.

I’d be more than willing to start the Origin install and copy across my save if it included the Warden’s Keep DLC.

I’ve been playing the last month in preparation for Inquisition and I’m enjoying it immensely, but like JJ said it depends on your preference.
I’d say get the game, download it, mod it and give it a try.
Captain JJ Underleyened
October 9, 2014 at 10:44
I think I was going into it expecting some fast paced action, which it’s not exactly. Coming from playing 13 hours of Torchlight into this possibly explains why. So I don’t condemn it, I just expected something else, I guess.
Kensei Seraph - Staff
October 9, 2014 at 10:51
I’ll agree it does have a somewhat sedate action pacing but it’s that which endeared it to so many people and is why DA2 was such a disappointment.
Captain JJ Underleyened
October 9, 2014 at 10:52
I really enjoyed the first DA, felt like something fresh and new. Will see when Inquisition comes what route they’ve taken for the future of the game.
