Have you played Divinity: Original Sin yet? I know a handful of people who have put dozens of hours into the game, are not finished, and are still loving every moment of it. The game focuses on turn-based combat and is a prequel to Divine Divinity which was released way back in 2002. What you may not know is that Original Sin is the result of a successful kickstarter project.
The kickstarter raised an incredible $944 282 out of the $400 000 goal. This allowed the developers, Larian Studio, to self publish their game. Swen Vincke, the founder and CEO of the studio is grateful for the support, but is hesitant to use such a means of funding once more, at least now that his game is successful (via Gamespot).
I hate to think what the game would’ve been if we didn’t have Kickstarter… if you asked me before Original Sin was released I would’ve said yes… I don’t think it would be correct to go and fish in the pool of crowdfunding investment again, I think that there’s others that could use that investment.
The game sold more than 160 000 copies in its first week (according to Wiki). If the original kickstarter could raise more than double their pledge, imagine what a second one would do? It is rather nice of Vincke to say that he would rather have the money go to other projects that may need funding.
While Original Sin is a PC exclusive, Vincke hasn’t explicitly stated that it will stay that way. Will it make its way to consoles at some point?
We always wanted to have a great experience on the TV screen, so we’ll definitely explore it. You’ve got the Steam box coming, you’ve got the Xbox [One], you’ve got the PlayStation [4], and there’s players who like playing on the screen with their PC. Obviously with the co-op experience it doesn’t take a genius to see that if you manage to make it work well, to share the experience on one screen will be great.
Diablo III is far more action orientated (when compared to Divinity), and Blizzard somehow converted the clickclickclick game into something that worked well on controllers – Darryn certainly loved it. While I haven’t played Original Sin myself, I’m pretty sure it could work on console, and will reach it eventually.
Divinity: Original Sin is available on Steam for $39.99. Are you a fan of it? Should I be playing it too?

It seriously intrigues me, but I got stuck in The Adventures of Van Helsing on Friday and, well, suddenly it’s Monday.

It was. A girl at work asked me today what do I do the weekend if I don’t go somewhere.
Oh, I go lots of places, sometimes there are giant spiders, sometimes orcs, and a few times I even saw some werewolves.

Me too, I installed a couple of weeks ago so it’s waiting there. Still want to finish AC3 though & this past weekend I was too busy being a space ninja.

I think I’ll wait until after finishing DA:O, DA:OA, DA2 and DA:I before looking at getting and playing this, of course by then The Witcher 3 will either be out or almost out and I’ll have to finish The Witcher and The Witcher 2.
Gaming, the hobby that never ends.

Skip all the DA and go straight to Witcher!! Witcher 1 and 2 went straight to my favourite RPGs. But I started Mass Effect 2 last week and now I’m just very confused.

But Inquisition!
A friend tricked me into watching the trailer and I’ve been struggling to avoid anything that would make me want to purchase it.
Besides The Witcher 3 only comes out Feb next year and 2,5 months should be enough to finish Dragon Age: Inquisition.

On a mildly related note (seeing as it is almost lunchtime).
Suggestions for Steers burger?
I’m leaning towards the bacon cheese avo burger

Just wanted to mess with the Administrator Chief, but I must agree. Not the greatest burgers ever. Better than McD’s, but that’s not saying much.

The thing is it already promotes character development, if I played the game I would already be worried about whether those tow makes it through to the end

Best RPG of 2014 by far, DA 2 wont touch this game.

Van Helsing is the first top-down RPG I’ve played in a longer time than I’ll admit to. Now don’t come here and tell me things like this. Where am I supposed to find the time for all of them? 😉

Van Hellsing is a action RPG like Diablo, Devine Divinity leans more towards Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment play style. Epic story and very deep game mechanics, I actually think its better than Baldurs Gate 2.
And of course it looks really good. I will guarantee you if you like a RPG then you wont ever look back.
I am level 5 and played over 20 hours so far, im still in the first town … there is so much to do 🙂

That was my concern, the time investment required to learn it.
Same with Rome Total War 2: Emperor (not Trevor) edition. Lots to learn

Its quite easy to learn to play the game, the learning curve is very low but to understand all the mechanics and spell system in depth will take you allot of time.
I am taking it slow playing a few hours every weekend, its like a good whiskey you must savour the experience and take your time 🙂
Brady miaau
September 8, 2014 at 12:39
If I take more than a few hours to learn and or enjoy something, I tend to pack it in. Bored easily and all that, but I do love RPG’s and played Baldurs gate et al.
Almost every review I read spoke about steep learning curve. You reckon it is more like chess or bridge, easy to learn basics, but takes a lot of time to truly master?

September 8, 2014 at 12:37
Not sure I agree with you. From what I have read (and it has been substantial) of the Original Sin game (hmm, sounds like a range of, um, frisky underwear) and DA2 they seem like very different games, with different goals and, while I am sure there will be plenty of overlap, different players too.

How many other games developed off Kickstarter can say the same? Very few, I bet. Well done to the dev team, they committed to a certain product and, from what I can tell, stuck to that. None of this overselling stuff

Still going to pick this up, it looks really good. I missed the kickstarter campaign :(. Want to invest some time into Wasteland 2 first when it releases the 19th, sitting with the beta on my pc for months now but don’t want to play before full release.
