Bloodborne’s level design is a strange mix of hub world with interlinked areas. Like Demon’s Souls, most of it is built around unlocking short cuts, something that made making a complete map a bit tricky. But a Reddit user has done it and it’s rather impressive.
Reddit user Hypnotyks has completed his high resolution world map of Yharnam and the Nightmares. They are in various forms in these images – with or without lanterns, printer friendly, etc. Check them out here.
I don’t find the level design to be that convoluted. Sure, the first run through of an area can feel utterly confusing, but soon you get a feel for where to go and it’s healthy to learn how to keep a map and sense of direction in your head, right? Still, for those with no sense of direction who are wandering through Yharnam utterly confused, this can be a big help. Even more so for those who struggle to discover short cuts and lanterns.
This is something of a lost skill among gamers. I remember years ago making my own maps of dungeons in games. It was helpful to keep track of where was best to grind for gold or which hallway should be avoided at all costs. It feels like that’s become something of a lost art now as almost every game comes with a mini-map and world map, plus the internet is filled with maps and walkthroughs. Then again, I suppose I can’t really complain – some of my most prized possessions are cloth maps from Collector’s Editions of games.

The way the levels interconnect and how the shortcuts open up are very, very well done. You slog through an area but as soon as you loop back around to a lantern through a path that you just unlocked you immediately feel like you progressed that little bit farther. Also getting back to a boss fight becomes much less of a chore here than in previous Souls games which was always a pain.

I’ve played Demon Souls. I’ve played Dark Souls. But I just can’t bring myself to play this… I know that either my controller, my console, my tv or all 3 will end up in pieces on the ground at the bottom of my building… Just can’t do it! Have watched some gameplay vids of the developers playing – if they die that easy, I ain’t got no hope!
Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope…

I would have borrowed you my copy if we lived in the same city just so that you can try it for yourself. The game is like the souls series but the biggest difference is in the combat. having a pistol instead of a shield makes a massive difference. Also this one is the easiest entry in the series in my opinion.

Stop tempting me! :p
Yeah, when it’s cheap, I’ll probably cave… But for now, the resistance is strong with this one!

Easiest entries?? Gees man that makes me feel like such a n00b. first paly through took me 48 hours and i missed a lot, the Cainhurst castle boss and one UC, still had two or three elevators that i did not unlock and did not have all the weapons (once i finished the game my OCD kicked in and i almost died! thought i would be able to go back and finish up after the final boss – ya you know what thought did…). i did have something else though, about 6 hours of waiting and watching the Bloodborne loading screen / fifty million deaths…. Thanks to WitWolfy for the help on some bosses!! you rock dude!

You found it easier than DS2? I dunno man. I honestly felt this was the most difficult. I got stuck on quite a few bosses whereas in the earlier souls games, there were only about 3 or 4 that had me tearing out my hair

Maybe it’s the combat? I found that the gun made it much more easier to stun enemies and bosses. Plus you regain health as you attack enemies.

I’m seriously considering on deleting the game disconnect from PSN and do the duplication glitch until I have a lvl 999 hunter. Just too lazy ATM…

I’ve realized a very sad facts with this game :
1.) I will threaten to sell it at least once an hour.
2.) I am glutton for punishment because there is the possibility i will replace this game.
3.) I suck at gaming : took me 3 hours to the first boss, fianceé said the game looks interesting and took all of 20min to get to him and give him an Ass whipping of note!

Is not a Hugo problem of you not liking it since it’s not a good game for Everyone (by Everyone I meant beginners) but as long you don’t replace it with some shooter like CoD then it’s fine.
