Witcher 3 New Game+ details

The final bit of free DLC for The Witcher 3 is finally going to add a much needed New Game+ mode to the RPG, letting you take your beefy Geralt out on a brand new adventure. CD Projekt Red made the announcement yesterday, but didn’t really detail how the process worked. What level would you start at? How would the game be different? These are some of the questions players eagerly wanted answered, and there’s some clarity on the entire mode now.

The Witcher 3 has no level cap, meaning you can meander around Novigrad endlessly and upgrade Geralt to your heart’s content. If you have been doing that, don’t stress – as long as you’re above level 30, your level won’t be affected when starting up a New Game+. If you’re below, you’ll receive a free bump up to 30 to be able to deal with the fiercer monsters you’ll face. Both instances will reward you with a Clearing Potion, which helps you reset all your skills for free.

As expected, the game will be more difficult on New Game+, but it also gives you the chance to alter your difficulty settings at any point. That means you can essentially hunt the more difficult achievements tied to modes like Death March – with your new, more experienced Geralt maybe being better suited to the task.

All your money, crafting materials, equipment and loot will also make the transition over, but there are a few niggling exceptions. Quest items, of course, will stay behind, as well as any Gwent Cards you have, letters and books. It’s a bit depressing to start your Gwent collection from scratch again, but it’s not too surprising given their reliance on some major quests.

Ultimately, there’s little reason not to begin a New Game+ as soon as the update launches. I do hope CD Projekt Red offer up some surprises with new Witcher equipment for truly high levels, but we’ll have to wait until they’re ready to show us more.

New Game + doesn’t intrigue me at all.
I would much rather start new and have a completely different and fresh experience.

I did that, but game does start to feel a bit grindy if you want to get all the witcher gear again.

I’m only planning to start a re-play much later. By that time Fallout 4 will be around and I’ll put W3 aside for a bit. By the time I get back to W3 it’ll be a nice new start.
I’ve done it 4 times with Skyrim. Should be fine with Witcher 3. 😀

yeah but in skyrim, levelling was really satisfying, you could actually use all your upgrades.
witcher didnt have that same feeling.

            That is true. For sure.
On the flip side, in Witcher 3 you don’t just run up to something and slash away endlessly. Re-doing all those hunts will be fun, starting off as a peasant. 🙂

    New witcher armour/swords NB.
a tier above master crafted? new smithies?
perhaps just more varied armour stats.

maybe its unnecessary with the new storage box, you can switch between the existing igni, attack and adrenaline armours you’ve crafted from griffin, feline, ursin and wolf armour.

Ursine is my favourite. Love that set.

the armour gain is usefull, but heavy armour and adrenaline points were useless in the first playthrough, an adrenaline build could actually be usefull in new game + though.

When I start over, I’ll start over properly. Don’t want any carryovers. But then I am definitely going to try out the feline set. Looks pretty cool.

i dunno, i worked hard on levelling and completing the game to a satisfactory point, but being massively overlevelled at the end game left me with a sour taste in my mouth.

with new game + your levels might actually mean something now.

I appreciate the idea behind it. Definitely. But it won’t feel like I’m replaying. It’ll feel like I’m rehashing. Though it could just be me, I know.

the same could be said from starting from level 1 though.
the choices in the game arent really all that varied.
if mass effect taught me anything, it was that second and third playthroughs led to a better game experience.
but then again, the paragon point system was far superior and implimented to a much higher degree than axii was in witcher.

i didnt really think witcher 3 had all that much replay value tbh.

but honestly wont know untill i try.

I must agree. I’m also wondering about the replayability of the game. When it’s story heavy it needs a lot to make it replayable. Skyrim and Fallout are games that focus on freedom, exploration and customization, which is where the appeal in their replayability lies.

the decisions arent really that impactfull and there is no class system, so no real variety in play style.
theres replay value in the sense that you can progress geralt, but geralt is always geralt, he is never your character.

The problem is after patch 1.07 all witcher gear level requirements changed, so you can only wear most of them including Standard Feline at Lvl 18/19/20

I like the Feline Armour set. With everything in melee combat, I did 8k crits with the Master Crafted Ursine Silver Sword. Light Armour and hitting very hard … was fun.

Now I can start the game with Mastercrafted Ursine 🙂
I do hope there will be some new gear above that though.

All I need is my experience, armour and my swords… Bring it! Plus I would really like to knock that old fart out this time when I’m in Skellige. Felt a bit like a twit when he kicked my ass with Yennifer giving me that “YOU’RE BETTER THAN THAT!” eyes…

I was wondering, I found a weapon that I can craft that had a lvl 37 requirement … that was a bit too high for me 😉

Feline Armour set with Ursine swords. Stacking attack power made me hitting like a truck.

Anyone ever realised that the armour stats were the same between light, medium and heavy armor (witcher crafted gear) … wonder if it was a bug

I forgot to slot the relevant Armour buff. I activated the Medium Armour buff for the Griffin Gear thinking those perks like Adrenaline gain were automatic. After slotting it my level 2 Griffin set enhanced my signs to 106%

light Armour buff for Cat-light attack
Med Armour buff for Griffin-Sign Attack
Heavy Armour buff for Bear-Heavy attack

I dont even play with heavy armor, my heavy attacks doing 7-8k crits
The attack power boost with feline armour is way awesome
