The Evolution Of – Metal Gear Solid

I like to imagine that 1998 was the year that gaming got a wake-up call. It was the year when Metal Gear Solid arrived, and it showed the industry that the video game platform could easily be used to tell a story that was bigger than anything that Hollywood had done. It was a game set a benchmark that year. And since then, it has spawned one hell of a franchise.

For the games in the video today, we focused on the core Metal Gear Solid titles. That’s Metal Gear Solid 1-5, a decade and a half of tactical espionage action. I first played Metal Gear Solid when it hit PC, and included all those lovely VR missions and the chance to play as the cybernetic ninja himself, Grey Fox. Also, that Psycho Mantis fight still gets to me sometimes. Good times man, good times. While the series has changed over the years, it has also become rather bloated with exposition and story, something that the gameplay suffers as a result of.

I’m hoping that with Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, we finally get a game that manages to once again balance narrative and compelling gameplay. That, and I’d kill for a sequel to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Make it so, dammit.

While cool, it really is a pity that the controls look so limited. The movement really looks retarded. Don’t even get me started on the aiming.

That game started it all for me. The ending was insane I might have replayed that game a bit more obsessively though. from 98 till now I have probably finished it 17 times if not more o.O

Grew up with metal gear solid one and I own and played almost every metal gear ever made including the spin offs: ghost babel, metal gear ac!d 1 and 2 portable ops etc. my favourite series of all time and my collection will keep on growing. unfortunately sold rising as it was a bit of a let down for me. Expected way more.
