New-gen GTA V will have a day one patch

GTA-V

It’s becoming increasingly rare these days to get a new game, and be able to play it without having to patch the damned thing. The very thing that made consoles such a hassle-free gaming environment has all but disappeared, leaving console gamers at the mercy of a myriad of patches and updates. Assassin’s Creed Unity had a rather large day one update, and it seems that GTA V will too.

While there’s no indication of its size, Rockstar has said that gamers should expect a day one update for the game.

“In order to experience the game properly, please make sure you install this update before playing (like all title updates, it will be applied automatically as long as you are connected to the internet) We will be looking closely at your feedback from the initial launch days on the new platforms to help inform other future dynamic tuning changes and title updates as always.”

This is an area where Rockstar – who’re firmly in control of their public relations – are masters. By letting users know well ahead of the game’s release that they can expect to face a patch, they effectively quell the otherwise inevitable internet outrage that follows when companies  keep consumers in the dark. It’s one of the reasons that anything Rockstar makes seems to get a free pass… even if it is a bit rubbish.

The game’s out on November 18 for the Ps4 and Xbox 1, with a PC version coming in January.

They’re masters at public relations for console gamers only.

Aren’t consoles the only demographic that matters? 😛

Day 1 patch seems to be a tickbox. They should replace that tickbox with 1080/60.

  5. New Gen = Day 1 patch

    November 13, 2014 at 09:28

The game has been out for more than a year and there is a day 1 patch. This new trend is blatantly obvious. Day 1 patch, day 1 DLC. The DRM without the DRM.

As Trevor Philips would say, FUCK!

Why is there a day one patch? Seems to me that someone, either QA and/or the alpha/beta testers didn’t do their jobs properly.

If the words PATCH, ON-LINE, DRM, 900p, U-PLAY, SEASON, DAY 1, DLC, REDEEM and UPDATE are mentioned at all for any game… MY MONEY STAYS IN MY WALLET.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT FUCK UP THE WITCHER 3 I only have half a year of gaming left if the current trend is anything to go on.

My kid doesn’t even get excited when we get home with new games because he knows he can’t play them immediately anymore. The Witcher 3 has a lot to get right to rectify all that wrong with gaming and I’m sure that Ubishit and EA are holding thumbs that they fuck it up.

I still dont understand why more people did not complain about the day 1 update to un-brick the Bone on Christmas morning. I think everybody just #DEALT with the fact that Auntie Marge does not have internet for the kid to play with the new toy. Times have changed. Even PRE-Downloading does not work.

Well at least with Witcher 3 we can look forward to 16 FREE DLC’s. Now pay attention EA and Ubersoft, you could learn a thing or 2 or actually learn it all again from CD Projekt Red.

By the amount of support Witcher is getting I’d say they will smash it. Witcher support is high due to them actually listening to the people and to note give well polished games.

I’m hoping for massive money glitches, just like the old gen had. If the PC version ever gets released, I;ll be waiting for a total fuckover of online. It’ll be swell.
