How you’ll move in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

It’s rapidly approaching the end of the year, which means it’s nearly time for a new Call of Duty. People love to hate on Call of Duty for recycling the same old formula, and I get that. There’s no denying that Call of Duty’s annualised release cycle is in place for Activision to make the most money it can, leveraging its brand for maximum profits.

When you speak to the people making these games though, there’s an undeniable fiery passion that flows through their veins in place of blood. Like Gavin, I’m the sort who mostly plays Call of Duty for the mindless, popcorn entertainment single player campaign. I then play the multiplayer for about a week, before everybody else becomes too damned good and I stop having fun. I’ve always favoured Treyarch’s Call of Duty games – at least, post COD 4 that is – so I’m actually rather keen for Black Ops 3.

And now, I’m keener. Activision’s shown off the game’s movement system, demonstrating how players will move about the game’s maps and it looks like, as far as movement goes, that it’s borrowed rather heavily from Titanfall. That’s not a bad thing.

Like with Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3 has a quasi-futuristic setting, allowing players to wall run, hop about like caffeine-pumped bunnies and slide around – but it seems a little more grounded, less fanciful and decidedly more fun.

My biggest hope then, is that this time around, the servers actually work.

“Movement in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is based on momentum, chaining together moves to engage your enemies in a variety of ways. Learn how the Black Ops 3 movement system will keep you in the fight from Treyarch Studio’s David Vonderhaar and Dan Bunting.”

Honestly, I feel you, G. That video was actually pretty hype. If it works like that, this could be a pretty good iteration.

Shit, now I’m in that weird place where I want to buy a CoD game.
It just seems like it aim is just a little too easy to control. When running along a wall, would aiming up not be slower? Jumping over a obstacle should leave your aim in the air… Don’t make it too easy!

Witcher 3 is broken. Every now and then when I filter items on a map the game stops working

That’s what you get for wanting to live in the console world and the patch filled world.

On PC no patches the game was fine.

So they purposefully sold me a game that they knew would not work properly on console? For shame.

Console realm is changing to always online always connected and patches. Patches mean added support. So it’s got to break for them to keep on supporting it.

I played the witcher 3 on pc from start to finish without patches and i had like no problems.

Witcher 3 is too big for consoles to handle. That’s why i say they should have just made the witcher 3 for pc first and then port over a piece of shit for consoles that needed constant updates for added support.

always online always connected? When’s this happening? They tried that with XBOX and people burned the internet down. Ever since XBOX has had to play catch up.

Skynet, I mean Windows 10. Microsoft was thinking about how Xbox One fitted into Windows 10 when Xbox One was announced. That’s why they thought it was such a good idea.

But since then and for the rest of this console generation, you will see more and more games going the always online, always connected route.

So next come next consoles, always online, always connected, DRM machines that fits into the Skynet, I mean Windows 10 network.
            Let’s hope Sony doesn’t go under. I don’t mean PS4 Sony here.

            Don’t Support Skynet.

The always online console thing is actually working out quite nicely for me on PS4. Patches download and install in the background whilst you are playing, and unless you bought a dud of a game, day one patches or any patch for that matter is not always a requirement.

I’m not sure how it works now. But with Xbox 360 if you didn’t want a patch then you couldn’t be connected to Xbox Live and play the game.

Of course, if you are not on the latest build of a game, you cannot be online

So while it might seem all good to get downloads in the background. If you don’t want a patch for your single player game they cut off from Skynet.

I guess that is one of the drawbacks. And as much as I hated patches in the past, it’s now a thing that doesn’t affect me all that much. SO I grin and bare it to be honest. Of course, I would prefer the old days where a game was fixed upon release and no patches needed.

Did anyone here play the Q3A total mod Urban Terror? Reminds me of that a bit. Wall runs, double jumping etc …

On a side note, I worked in a company where we used to have epic Urban Terror battles over lunch. Damn I miss those days.

And now all I can think of is the endless hours I spent on the map Riyadh, blowing other people’s heads off. I always used to speed run my way into the enemies base and then run about in the buildings sniping the back of the enemy team’s heads as they scanned the far horizon for me.

I miss that game. I wonder if people are still playing … if they are they’ll be a helluva lot better than I ever was.
