Halo 5 December DLC teaser

Halo 5 is one of the more divisive titles of the year, but there’s no doubting that the game is incredibly strong when it comes to its online multiplayer component. Just last week 343 Industries released the November batch of free DLC, bringing Big Team Mode, four new maps and a ton of new REQ packs to the came for free. They’re planning on maintaining this momentum in December too, with some previously unannounced additions bubbling to the surface.

During an incredibly long livestream over the weekend, 343 teased some of the smaller additions that will be coming to the shooter free next month. Forge mode is already headlining the DLC update, allowing players to get their hands dirty with custom maps and modes, but there’s something too for players who just want to have more gear for their Spartan. Skip ahead to the 2 hour mark for a rapid sneak peek at the new gear.

If you missed it (because I certainly did) the short snippet shows off some new black and gold weapon skins that will be available for unlock. It’ll join the new M41 Rocket Launcher which looks to be making a debut, as well as a brand new Mark IV helmet for you to kit out your Spartan with. Not the biggest DLC pack you’ve ever seen, but Forge definitely makes up for it.

This all ties into 343’s strategy of consistent, free content to keep Halo 5 players progressing and feeling rewarded, even if the REQ system with Warzone needs a few bugs swept under the rug to feel a little less exploitative after many, many hours. The campaign is a little throwaway but I don’t see myself getting tired for Halo 5’s multiplayer soon, and these free updates just help the addiction.

  1. Free content.

    Good.

More of this. You already paid for it, no need to be milked

So, when are they pushing the MT that brainwashed players have defended?

MT gives us free DLC. MT only barely (if at all) effects the gameplay of one game-type. MT don’t get you anything you couldn’t otherwise get after an hour of game-play.

      So…who cares?

I haven’t played much yet, but I have already opened over a dozen req packs. You can “buy” them with in-game points, you are awarded them for reaching different milestones (like getting a certain amount of kills with a specific weapon), you are awarded them for leveling up.

As far as I can tell, you’ll never know the difference between someone killing you in Warzone with a weapon/vehicle from a req pack purchased with real-world currency or in-game currency.

TLDR – Other than giving us free DLC MT don’t matter.
