Forza Horizon 2

Yesterday saw the announcement of not one, not two but three new games within the span of an hour. Amidst fatalities and revolutions however, one new titles was announced, full of kudos and drifting around the bend. Ladies and Germans, Forza Horizon is getting a sequel.

Grab a car that costs more than your house and crank up the tunes, because the Forza Horizon festival is back. A 2012 spin-off of Forza Motorsport, Horizon was a racing game with less of an emphasis on petrolhead physics and more of a focus on looking cool and collecting cars.

It’s essentially the Fast and the Furious to Forza Motorsport’s Aryton Senna documentary. The sequel will be overseen by Playground Games, in conjunction with Forza Motorsport developers Turn 10. There’ll be hundreds of new cars according to IGN, a new weather system and will be set in Southern Europe.

Don’t expect this version of Forza to be held back by being a cross-platform game, as Horizon deux has been developed by two teams. Playground will be handling duties on the Xbox One version, which will run on the Forza Motorsport 5 engine.

Meanwhile, the Xbox 360 version will be developed separately, and sport the same engine that the original Forza Horizon used. That should quell any “cross gen” complaints. Sumo Digital, behind the excellent Sonic and All Stars: Racing Transformed will be  toiling away on that.

It’s a smart decision at the end of the day. Creating a game that bridges both old and new generation consoles may mean more potential sales. Expect to see more outsourcing in the future of this type, in order to maximise game potential.

I’m a pc gamer though, so that means that the great game that used to be GRID is now out of my reach. Always loved Forza. Will wait and see what GRID Autosport looks like and how it’s received, but Codemasters lost my vote when they drowned Race Driver with GRID2.

Never played GRID2 but I loved the original, played the crap out of it, was so tight. That time I had that [now not so top of the range] Logitech steering wheel, man, used to jam it like crazy. Though Drifting was a b**ch. Looking forward to Autosport

I also played the first like crazy. I’ve owned and played nearly every since Race Driver ever made. Spent more hours on GRID 1 than any racing game ever. Pre-ordered GRID 2. Very hopeful and all. By far the worst buy I made last year. Not worth a R50 special.

They literally took ALL the dynamic out of the first GRID and forced you to drift around corners in able to beat anyone. And online MP was a mess of dicks shoving you off the road without penalty.

Damn, never played 2, glad I didn’t sounds horrible…Who were they trying to appeal to even

NFS fans. Felt like an NFS game.
Which I don’t always mind. But it’s a Race Driver game, not an NFS game.

It’s made by Criterion 🙁 Don’t think EA will pull them back out to make Burnout, because…EA

Hehe yeah I know, EA went and said (looking at Butnout) this is not how we see a racing game, we see it more like NFS, make the game like that.

Couldnt agree with you more. Juiced 3, Need for Speed Underground 3. Would have been great games. Full car customizations from real world parts, massive amounts of rims, mods for performance and cosmetic. If they can make games where you a bad guy etc etc like Overlord. Surely they can make car games of illegal underground racing and “lifestyle”.

I see GRID Autosport is on the way. Apparently they’ve ditched everything about GRID 2 and went back to their roots of the first GRID. Can only be good then, considering the abomination that was GRID 2.

Grid 2 was a decent car game, but a bad Grid successor.
Grid 2 was a great game from when you get your first few cars, till about half way though, then it all got a bit stupid. cars just got faster and faster and more fragile. never did finish it.

but tbh, both were boring, always felt like it was missing something

True. I want to believe that they will though.
I was seriously a big fan of the first GRID, but I think it comes from generally being a follower of the Race Driver series.
But, as you say, GRID 2 was probably a decent game in, say, the NFS stable, but not under the GRID name.

Agreed. It all changed when they decided to place half of their production values into the creation of a cars cup holder rather than a super fun TRACK to drive on.

That Fujimi Kaido track in Japan was amazing.

underground 2 and the original most wanted were pretty great aswell.
even carbon was pretty good at the time, although a bit too fantasy.

i liked the old drift modes and when upgrading your car felt REAL.
i dont like the pressure newer games have where they force you into buying new cars all the time, i miss buying a Skyline or a Cayman S and upgrading the thing to the point where it wiped lamborginis.
tuner cars are way more fun than exotics.

I do want this – going to be interesting for us in SA. We basically have the choice of getting Forza 5 and Horizon 2 within a couple of months due to One’s late arrival to these shores. As a racing fan that is great.

Not sure about cross-gen though – isn’t it time to move on given 5 wasn’t cross-gen? Seems a strange choice and I only have a 360 at the moment. In theory great news for me if I don’t get the One but sad news for those wanting a toy designed with the new hardware in mind exclusively.

    FORZA…

Who’s a good little donkey? Would you like some carrot? What? you cant reach it? SHAME…

Maybe if we sold you what used to be included like the NURBURGRING you would find the Horizon where all the little good DLC carrots on a stick reside.
