FFD: Will you buy the Xbox One?

FFDThinker

We received confirmation earlier today about the Xbox One’s online requirements and it’s suspect used game trading ability.

Knowing this now and while still not knowing whether Sony is going to implement a similar system on the PlayStation 4 are you planning on still buying the Xbox One?

I’m going to get one because we have to have one for the company, but right now I simply cannot see myself recommending anyone else to get one.

Second follow on question, have you ever been stuck without Internet for a prolonged period of time? Why?

Remember. DSTV needs to be brought into the loop if you want all the features.

I defended it, as I figured it must have been a miscommunication by MS. Apparently it was not. I’ve never pirated a 360 game and have spent a shit ton of money on games, but as a matter of principle I will not buy an Xbox ONE if they do not change the DRM requirements.

Why should I struggle when I’ve legally bought a game?

I dont have anything against ps,I loved the PS1 and PS2. I couldnt buy the PS3 at the time as it was mostly the price that held me back.
Still I prefer MS more for Xbox Live though, socially its awesome.Plus my clan is a xbox clan so it makes sense anyway

Yes, I will. Not saying I agree with everything but used games never bothered me! I blame Hellkom to be honest! The whole company is a total mess and their broadband strategies are non existent! I had to opt for a 7mb satellite service but that’s not ideal for online gaming due to latency issues so I probably won’t be able to utilise the always online multiplayer games anyway. The DRM check in’s are not a problem though! I just hope the people saying outright that PS4 is the way to go aren’t disappointed when Sony finally reveals their strategy! Maybe we’ll look back on this and say “at least MS had the decency to screw us upfront…..”

LOL, scary and true! The used games thing doesn’t bother me that much either, but I can foresee being without internet at some points, and I find the notion of DRM archaic and dated.

Pirates are still gonna pirate, you’re really just making it more difficult for the guys buying it legally.

No, my internet line is crap and I often use my PS3 when I go on holiday to play single player / offline games. So the whole 24 hrs/always on thing is a deal breaker.

I don’t like the restrictions around used games trade, I buy lots of titles, once I’ve finished with a game I sell it and buy the next AAA title. I don’t know what PS has in mind around that, but if it’s a similar model to the PS3 then I’m happy to rather buy the PS4.

Personally the focus around TV and non-gaming stuff doesn’t bug me but I do think alot of these fancy features won’t be available in SA.

Then new the game offerings exclusives etc of the PS4 make me excited, Xbone’s make me yawn.

    PS4 for me.

No I will not get one. There is no way I am paying for a glorified Blu-Ray player.

    as to second question:

Yes I have been stuck without internet for extended periods:
    1) Faulty line that took 2 weeks to fix because of an underground cable break beyond the exchange.
    2) Faulty line that took a month to fix because of an exchange that got damaged by lightening
    3) Moved homes so had to wait for a new line. Couldn’t get one in the complex. Had to go 3G. Almost 2 months since Telkom were so tardy in telling me they couldn’t provide a line.
    4) 3 weeks downtime because of a SeaCom break back when the undersea cable had been destroyed (This affected everyone like 2 years back remember?). While there was some connectivity, international connectivity would have been nowhere near good enough for the XBoxOne.

So in short. Taking all this in to consideration…. No, I will not be getting an XBoxOne. I will stick to my PC.
PS4? If it’s offline and only when the prices start to come down then yes. Maybe a PS3 even. But no XBox products.

I’ll most likely pick one up along with a PS4 once the libraries are fleshed out a bit. The always connected thing doesn’t bother me as my whole house has been geared for NET access for years now.
YES, I have lost connection twice already due to cable theft but I just switch over to mobile networks then though.

      Unfortunately not the case.

Remember PC also has no second hand market. The fact that consoles still do to some extent is still a winning point for consoles.

Just so we are clear. I am a PC gamer and will always be and prefer it.

Although at least with my PC I don’t have to be online every 24 bloody hours to play my games. Heck, even steam has an offline play option!

MS screwed the pooch here and if Sony goes the same route as MS then yeah, THEN the PC gamer market might swell. Still, that second hand games market is a real deal breaker for most so they may hobble along with the Draconian DRM simply because of that.

So no. Don’t think I will be getting one. Which is a shame as I have a 360. And I enjoy the controller layout.

Cloud based downloading and sharing are the standard now, Nintendo are just behind the curve. Both consoles will function similarly in that regard. As for sharing with 10 linked accounts, it creates more problems than it solves. Are you going to link your friends accounts with your own to share games? You most likely won’t be able to play the same game at once anyway.

As I said. Great ideas that are just flawed fundamentally. It could have been good. It could have been great. Then they got tired halfway and instead of trying to figure out how to make it work properly they decided to force authentication every 24hours on primary and every hour on shared. So close, yet so far. Very poor performance from MS

It’s unnecessary. They are pegging these restrictions on Used games, but they are happy to let people jipp the system by linking accounts? They would end up with fewer new game sales in this example. It just sounds so contrary. Used games are a scapegoat. Publishers are pushing DRM to prevent piracy primarily, and secondarily funnel users into certain habits. Anyone saying anything otherwise is a liar.

At the moment they look like the hero but not enough is known on their system and rulings. MS has taken all the flack while Sony has not come out and said second hand games will be as they are now. Internet thing is fine for me – I got Xbox Live and the internet is always on at my spot so gaming on the PS3 and Xbox does not effect me but I can imagine that it really could effect others. Not everyone has internet at home and use it at work. Also price and exclusives do effect my choice – If things are too pricey in the beginning then I will only be able to get one console and even with all their hush hush I do believe it will be the PS4 at the moment. E3 should shed some light and I can make a clear choice in a couple days time.

This DRM does not do it for me, I chipped a PS1 ages ago but every game I had for my PS2 and PS3 were legit and cost alot of my money! I have never really given Xbox consideration and wont do so this time either. The DRM does not appeal to me especially when many of us can only obtain a 1MBPS line. I have had no internet for 3 months, so that essentially makes an XBone a no go for me.

No I will not get one, regardless, the reason being many complexes don’t have telephone lines and due to telkom have been without DSL for long periods… If Sony Comes up with the same Drivel, I will port back to PC and hang onto my Xbox360 for those bored moments…

At the end of the day the chose to buy either console comes down to this in South Africa – DRM, Availabilty and Quality of Services for all consoles (Telkom,Xbox Live or PSN features, customer support, and ease of access) and Games.
These play a huge part in purchasing the Xbox One or PS4. Dont actually think either console IS the actually problem really.

I have an xbox360 at the moment (chose it over the PS3 as it was cheaper and I got it before the
PS3 was out yet). While I love my console I will not be buying the xbox one.
Should Sony implement a similar system, then I will not buy a PS4 either.

Basically I am waiting for the news from Sony to decide if it will be a PS4, or if I am going
to upgrade my PC. As far as MS goes, I don’t even care what they have to say about the games at
E3, as my mind is made up.

I am currently stuck without internet at home. Telkom tell me that they don’t have the
infrastructure (and I need to wait until 2014 at the earliest). It has been
over 2 years now since I applied for my line. I don’t have an xbox live account
    (nor do I want one).
If Sony are smart, they can win the next gen war before it has even begun.

As of right now, I will not be getting an xbox one. Theirhave been times that I have had no internet due to wires down, or not wanting to have it to save money.

I’m still on the fence and waiting what exclusive M$ have. If they show anything I like I’ll jump in, but there’s something about the PS4 and how Sony have been presenting it that just makes me want to get it day one.PS I love that the fanboi wars and getting back in full swing.

No way, Microshafts draconian DRM is a console killer especially here in SA with the bandwidth restrictions we have on our DSL. The beauty of console gaming is that you can simply insert a disc and play whether you have an internet connection or not. The always online requirement will kill sales everywhere except the US. I’ll stick with my ageing Xbox 360 and my Uber PC.

where r these exclusives? all crap in most peoples opinion. titanfall and MGS5 were thought to be X1 exclusives but went to ps4 too.so leaves only Ryse and that was not very impressive and i believe it didnt run smoothly during E3 which shows x1 will have many bugs like 360 had.and better gaming device? yeah that communist box is great…restrictions r always nice…
