TESO

Zenimax Online, the folks behind the Elder Scrolls MMO has unfortunately had to lay off a number of staff. While it would be easy to assume that this as a result of the middling reception the subscription-based, fantasy MMO has received, publisher Bethesda says that’s just not the case.

“As is the norm for games of this type, we had ramped up a large workforce to develop a game of vast scale, and ramped up our customer service to handle the expected questions and community needs of The Elder Scrolls Online at launch,” says the statement.

“Now that we are nearly 6 months post launch, we have a thriving online community in a game that runs smoothly. We have adjusted staffing to meet the ongoing needs of the studio, which continues to operate with a large work force,” the statement continued.

The Elder Scrolls Online, was released on PC and Mac in April this year, to what can only be called mixed reviews. In our own review, we called the game rather buggy, forcing Matthew to restart far too often for it to be fun.

The MMO is still set for release on the new consoles, and is coming in December – hopefully with its bugs well and truly squashed.

“We remain strongly committed to The Elder Scrolls Online, and continue to invest heavily to develop new content for PC and Mac players, prepare the game for its console launch, and handle our planned expansion into important international territories,” the statement adds.

I didn’t give the game much of a chance myself; I played it for about 4 minutes before becoming well and truly bored. Do any of you still play this? Is it any fun?

Its really good, The 30 day PVP campaign was recently always full, and they are having to add another campaign now :-). Still havent even finished a third of the PvE content and Ive been playing 5 days a week since launch.

Once you get stuck into a online game no one can dissuade you from playing. Not even bugs or bad ping. Especially when you get sorta good at it. So it must have some redeeming value.

You get addicted for sure, you constantly want better gear, powers etc, especially so you can be better at PVP, and to do so you have to put in a lot of time. PS when I have been online, there are some players that I have NEVER seen not playing, everyone knows them etc, they must only sleep 1 hr a day.

The problem is its the ONLY game I have played since April, thats how much its sucked me in. That will soon change though as I am looking forward to Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age.

I Only took part in the beta’s but the game was awesome on it’s own,I really enjoyed it and was very addictive, just too bad the subscription every month hit me because I was just not willing to pay every month for a game that cost a lot to buy, I guess the people who got layed off are no longer required because the game has reached its mature state of stability.

    Sure sure. I believe them.
After playing TESO myself I am convinced it’s because no one wants the game.

My copy of ESO sits unused, mocking my purchasing zeal.

My copies of Watch Dogs and Thief are still in plastic wrap unopened, because I would rather play TESO.

I played it for a few days myself over two weekends. Found it incredibly boring and shallow for an Elder Scrolls game, so uninstalled it and that was that. It just lacks that substance of all the other Elder Scrolls games.
Is it a good MMO? Probably very good, but it’s the worst Elder Scrolls ever made.

I wonder how long we will have to wait for a new SP Elder Scrolls, probably a very long time ;-( Hopefully Fallout 4 will fill the gap.

Nah, bought the Imperial Edition and played about 5 hours. To be fair, I also participated in the beta, and it was gripping at times. Too much level grinding and too much bugs though. I’m sticking with GW2. No subscription FTW.

I’m assuming you’re talking about Guild Wars? How is it btw? I know nothing about it, but it’s always looked interesting

Yes. Its great. I’ve been playing it regularly for about a year and a half now. It’s a strange thing, at first I didn’t like it so much, and stopped playing. And then a few months later I got a craving and loved it ever since. The devs keep adding new stuff and improving things, which is awesome. Also, almost no bugs. It is quite addictive.

Does it have that nice openness feeling though? I can’t quite figure out from the screenshots and such. I love it when a game just feels like you can go anywhere and do anything.

It’s map-based, so its no Skyrim-feeling-world. But the maps are huge, you’ll have enough places to explore. For a MMO, the graphics are pleasing too.

Ah. Great. Thanks. I’ve been so lus for a nice RPG lately, this could just fill that void.

Played the Beta… Should have called it the Meh-ta… Also GW2 just doesn’t do it for me.

The Secret World and WoW are probably the only two I would go back to. MMOs that is.
