Dying Light’s expansion, The Following, is out early next year

Dying Light The Following release window

Dying Light has been one of the most surprising games of the year, delivering an incredibly fun zombie smashing game with well implemented parkour and RPG-like mechanics. It’s one that got this gaming year of to a great start, and developers Techland and going to try an emulate that success at the same time next year. Or, at least, somewhere close to that.

Dying Light is getting a particularly big expansion called The Following (not to be confused with that horribly disappointing Kevin Bacon series), which will introduced Dune Buggies, a brand new area and new craftable weapons for you to inker with. The expansion also has a release window now, with The Following set to drop sometime in the first three months of next year.

The Following takes players to a more flat countryside, which is part of the reason why vehicles have been introduced to keep the pace of the game fairly high. That doesn’t mean your rooftop running is past you, and you’ll probably find yourself scarpering up walls and street lamps all over again to avoid the hordes of the undead.

Or, you know, you could just deliver ab electrically charged baseball bat hit to the face of a few of them before hand. That’s always fun too.

The Following is out on all Dying Light platforms, and will cost you a relatively low $14.99 to buy separately. It’s included in the Season Pass too.

Agreed, I use this simple handy dandy flow chart – “does it have Zombies?” then nope, not buying.

Maybe I’m just getting old. At least they tried but the market just want play play and the devs had to move with the times. Never has my 30 year hobby made me feel as old as I do today.

Just trying to be an single player off-line gamer is frowned at these days.

Ya, EA have the best sound library in the business. I know, I shot rifles for 5 years in the army and the voice chat over the radio was perfect, partly due to the adviser of the game, ex SAS soldier Andy McNab who also worked on the film Heat.

I believe they used a version of Xonar to do the sound of the game, basically it’s an engine that allows you to emulate different situations, like halls, open spaces etc. what fascinates me about that engine is that it sounded as close as you’d be able to get gunshots and incoming fire, it was beautifully executed…

True, I remember a dev diary explaining how hard it was to get the echo that goes with shooting a weapon in a rocky valley like Afghanistan.

I also remember that the game was banned and had to be censored because the original version allowed you to play as Taliban and shoot American forces. lol

I remember that too, some hogwash about people wanting to sign up as Taliban recruits after playing the game…

That game was kak boring. 2 hours of easy peasy on-rails shooting. And some silly helicopters. 😛

I actually regret trading Dying Light in because I really loved the game, so would have been fun to go back and play the expansion:(
