A university student in Perth has developed a monitoring system for the sick, elderly or disabled, using the Kinect. As part of a research project, he developed software that uses the motion detection to continually track a person’s movements and learn their daily routine. Thus, the system would identify if the person missed a meal or didn’t get out of bed. Then, the system can send a family member an SMS or email.
Maybe this will be a new feature on the Xbox 720 – rumor has it that there will be built in Kinect and it will be permanently online.
All well and good until grandma decides to turn off random plugs to save power, as old people are prone to do. And I really don’t want to get the “didn’t get out of bed” SMS only to discover that grandpa found some Viagra and a willing victim.

Yeah, but from what I remember in physics the most accepted was whether it was ionized to the point where it interacts with the electromagnetic realm. There are many exceptions as you point out though. What I think I will go with is that a plasma rifle doesn’t look like a flamethrower. To me, you don’t get more science than that! lol

Yes it is a tad bit weird but I support these things, like the program used in hospitals that uses the kinect. It’s good to have this end of the spectrum too. As video games and Video game hardware can benefit society in a non gaming way. It’s much better than the consoles being used to syphon money

Maybe we can pre-programme our xboxs to respond in certain ways, perhaps with an image projected into the old bat’s living room. That way when ol granddad wakes up, and stumbles into the kitchen, a projected image of myself can welcome him, tell him to make us a cup of tea (hopefully he won’t noticed all the un-drink cups, working on solving this…) and I can be sure that when his time comes, I am left money for being a good grandson! Mmm, too much?
