Your Xbox can save your grandma

Old-Age

A university student in Perth has developed a monitoring system for the sick, elderly or disabled, using the Kinect. As part of a research project, he developed software that uses the motion detection to continually track a person’s movements and learn their daily routine. Thus, the system would identify if the person missed a meal or didn’t get out of bed. Then, the system can send a family member an SMS or email.

Maybe this will be a new feature on the Xbox 720 – rumor has it that there will be built in Kinect and it will be permanently online.

All well and good until grandma decides to turn off random plugs to save power, as old people are prone to do. And I really don’t want to get the “didn’t get out of bed” SMS only to discover that grandpa found some Viagra and a willing victim.

On a sidenote, I don’t get it why people, and especially old people, still smoke. I mean why?

Habit, my dad smoked since he was 13.

This last weekend I saw a really hot woman outside the mall entrance, then I saw she was smoking, instant turn-off. Which is weird seeing as I used to smoke lol

      Bollocks ;P

Its a Trojan Horse for BIG BROTHER to truly invade your living room. It will not be long before the Kinect has an alarm to alert the Mods at Micro Brother HQ to arrest one for being a sense offender.

Its the beginning of the end to our privacy and I bet the FBI jump on the bandwagon 10 years from now.

“Hey there “gamer name”, I noticed you get rather angry while gaming, have you considered professional psychological help? Or maybe you’re just a bit hungry, how about a nice pizza?”

I just had another brilliant idea. Match this with a controller that can measure your blood pressure. Call me MS!

Or would you like a test run in THE NEW BMW at your local dealer. Wave hands for YES or wave hands TO OPT OUT.
Thank you for your participation in signing that AGREE when purchasing your MANDATORY Kinect. Your DATA is invaluable.

Would you like to SKIP THIS AD in order to continue your game?

In the voice of Dr Spencer “Well, actually plasma is a state where atoms are completely ionized, in a flame from a candle or common fireplace, they are only partially, not to mention that from a candle what you are really seeing is burning carbon, which is why a magnet cannot effect a burning newspaper, but can the aurora lights”. Cough* Sorry, I am a geeek, hahaha

A flame (from Latin flamma) is the visible, gaseous part of a fire. It is caused by a highly exothermic reaction taking place in a thin zone.[1]Some flames, such as the flame of a burning candle, are hot enough to have ionized gaseous components and can be considered plasma.[2]

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame

            Noted its under debate though

Yeah, but from what I remember in physics the most accepted was whether it was ionized to the point where it interacts with the electromagnetic realm. There are many exceptions as you point out though. What I think I will go with is that a plasma rifle doesn’t look like a flamethrower. To me, you don’t get more science than that! lol

Bah! Offline! Sure. When even pacman becomes perma-online, “It’s an MMO guys”, “It’s for socialising people”, Microtransact, pay-to-progress or Grind till you are blue in the face, #DealWithIt, malware we shall talk again. Can you give up your hobby that easily? Would you give it up? I wonder if I would be able to….

That is really creepy. Why would anyone agree to have that in their home? Seriously that is messed up. You can dress it up as protecting old people, just like you can dress up censorship laws as protecting kids, this is just one massive invasion of privicy. I don’t see why anyone would agree to it.

Its Mandatory for the 70million Microsoft fans (8 million if one counts the RRODs). Just by paying for XBOX LIVE one would have had to mandatory AGREE to become a victim for future on-line data capturing and Telemarketing.

Yes it is a tad bit weird but I support these things, like the program used in hospitals that uses the kinect. It’s good to have this end of the spectrum too. As video games and Video game hardware can benefit society in a non gaming way. It’s much better than the consoles being used to syphon money

Maybe we can pre-programme our xboxs to respond in certain ways, perhaps with an image projected into the old bat’s living room. That way when ol granddad wakes up, and stumbles into the kitchen, a projected image of myself can welcome him, tell him to make us a cup of tea (hopefully he won’t noticed all the un-drink cups, working on solving this…) and I can be sure that when his time comes, I am left money for being a good grandson! Mmm, too much?
