If you’ve splashed out a ton of money on one of those incredibly expensive surround-sound headsets for your Xbox 360, you’ve probably been wondering whether or not it would work on the Xbox One, which uses a very different headset input on its controllers. Microsoft has now confirmed that yes, they’ll work – but it’s probably going to cost you extra.
That’s according to Microsoft’s lead planner for the Xbox One, Albert Penello, responding to the question on Twitter.
@TheMVPlaya Yes. We will have an adapter that allows current gaming headsets to work.

So no, that ludicrously expensive Astro, Tritton or Turtle Beach headset you dropped cash on wasn’t a waste. Penello has also said that Microsoft has heard the feedback regarding the lack of bundled chat headsets with the Xbox One, and is looking in to it – so it’s possible that by the time the Xbox One is available it will indeed have one in the box.

“so it’s possible that by the time the Xbox One is available it will indeed have one in the box.”
By this do you mean “by the time the Xbox One is available in South Africa”?

Would the extra cost be that the adapter is something to bought separately to the console?

Better to have the adapter than not plus won’t be long before 3rd party make one cheaper (whatever the price is) 🙂

Ok cool. But what I am also worried about is whether there will be an adapter for those red and white cords for my turtlebeach headset. I mean i had to buy an adapter for xbox 360 for it to work on my hd tv. The adapter talked about in the article, is an adapter for the chat part that connects to the controller. I’m worried ill have to buy a whole other turtlebeach headset
