Overall, I thought Microsoft’s Press Event to be a little disappointing. Unlike last year, there were no shock announcements, no big game reveals and nothing quite like the impact of Natal’s announcement. Rebranded Kinect, we got to see a few of the games for the system – and they largely pander to the casual crowd.
None of the retail games shown really wowed me – bar one. Metal Gear Solid: Rising from Kojima Productions. It looks to have taken elements from Afro Samurai and refined them, resulting in a gorgeous, fluid action game that gives Ninja Gaiden a run for its money.
No word on release date, but it’ll also be making its way to PC and PS3 when it does launch.

Ive loved every single Metal Gear ive ever played including the AC!D PSP games but this made me cringe. It looks like a hack and slash game with sword time to dismember limbs. Thats never been Metal Gear and frankly id prefer my Action/Stealth/Espionage gameplay over this childish lets dismember everyone and chop cars in half childish Lightning/Bolt/Action. They should have called this game something else and not Metal Gear because it’s retained nothing that made Metal Gear great to begin with. It almost looks like a poor mans Ninja Gaiden.
Dont get me wrong the game looks nice and it will probably be a good game but it saddens me to see where Kojima Productions take the series when Koj isnt involved. Hopefully the 3rd game they plan to announce today will be a Kojima directed game. I will reserve full judgment for when the game is released but that trailer and what was revealved made me sad as hell.

To an extent I agree – it’s not Metal Gear as we know it, and probably should have a different prefix – but it’s set in the same world, so I suppose the metal Gear name applies.
Still, it looks like an awesome game!

It’s not “Tactical Espionage Action” like the previous games, it’s “Lightning Bolt Action”.
