Activision teases “Ghosts” ahead of tomorrow’s reveal

Tomorrow evening we’ll be treated to not one, but two reveals. Microsoft will finally be showing the world its next generation Xbox successor, whatever it might be called. We’ll also be getting a proper first look at the next Call of duty, the Infinity Ward-developed Ghosts – which can’t really be copied and pasted this time, because it runs on a brand new, next-generation engine.

To get you all excited, Activision’s teased the new game using that new micro-video sharing service, Vine, that I’m just too old to comprehend. Take a look.

Look! Wireframes, and development PC’s! that’s proof it’s a brand new game, right? Expect to see more of the game from Microsoft during tomorrow evening’s reveal – which happens at 7pm local time.

Ok, I am just going to come straight out and say it. That polygon count doesn’t look like much to write home about. So not sure why they decided to use a wireframe view for this?

To the person who downvoted me.

Since you downvote without explaining let me put my explanation up so you can see what you’re supposed to do if you don’t agree:

They are using the new graphics as a marketing point. Therefore if you want to use the fact that you have a new next-gen graphics engine then you need to show at least a little and show something that is impressive.

They chose to try do that by showing a wireframe mesh on the characters. While that would usually be a good idea, this time it kind of fell flat on its face because I have seen current-gen systems with better wireframe meshes. So emphasizing the the fact that the new engine is next-gen and then showing a poor representation of it through wireframe video teaser is a bit of a silly thing to do and not at all going to give the impact it was meant to.

It’s going to be a hardware reveal and not the whole E3 show in one presentation. MS have traditionally always showed of the Xbox’s graphics prowess with a console reveal. Also, Activision have taken a lot of flak recently with a graphics engine dating back to Quake 3.

Hardware reveal? What are you on about. We are talking about the Activision Vine video clip that shows (teases) their new game Ghosts.

So talking about the XBox showing off graphics has nothing to do with this topic.

Activision have taken flak for their old graphics: That was the point I was making. They already are taking flak for their old graphics and now they show a teaser clip while saying their graphics are going to be next gen and to achieve a wow factor they tried to show it in wireframe mode to wow people. However it fails at that because the wireframe view is nothing spectacular and does not show next-gen. Heck it doesn’t even show a current gen wireframe for any of those characters. So they fail at what they were attempting to do (Activision. Not microsoft. This has nothing to do with the xbox or E3.)

I think he was putting the Xbox 720 hardware reveal and the Engine running Ghosts together but you are as gullible as most gamers these days in expecting a whole game reveal in one Vine clip. Your hatred for CoD has gotten the better of you so it seems. I guess you hate M$ too? Or you just rant about anything and everything?

Chill out mate…lets wait for tomorrow then you can rant on but now you’re pissing in the wind by going on about wire mesh tech shown in this teaser…I suppose any reason to hate on COD…

Actually you both have it wrong. I’m not hating on it. I’d really like to see it succeed. I’m actually excited to see CoD get a new graphics engine and a bit more polish. What they were able to do with their outdated engine was actually rather amazing so I am going to assume a new engine will be incredible.

I am saying that they made a mistake from a marketing perspective with this teaser. And that is sad.

Your immediate reaction is to assume I am hating on it which is incorrect. Perhaps I’m not finding any excuse to hate on them but rather you guys are finding any excuse to see someone hate on it? cc Jakster

Dude, it’s a 5 sec teaser and you wanna go on about polygon count and run comparisons to current gen…c’mon…The showing is tomorrow. Why show off the game in detail now…? Keep the people in suspense…So no, it isn’t a marketing mistake…Teasers like this are meant to leave a subliminal message…Perhaps they showing us that it is in production for all those who believe they copy n paste… And surely you can forgive me for thinking you’re taking a dig as most on LG seem to do so on COD… 🙂

All I’m saying is that if it was me, I would rather show 1 or 2 quick high detail glimpses of some of the graphics rather than what they did show.

I understand what they were trying to do and even think it’s a good idea. But in this case it didn’t do as I think they were hoping it would. It certainly did nothing for me. And let me let you in on a little secret:

I actually enjoy the CoD series of games. The story lines are actually rather cool (I don’t play the multiplayer as I’m just not quick enough).

So I want them to do well and I do get a little excited over the CoD releases. So the above did nothing for me except give me a little feeling of disappointment. So it failed at making a fan of the series excited.

I hope IW has progressed further by this time. I don’t think people would like playing in Wire-Frames as ,well it’s a built in aimbot.
