I’m not big on backwards compatibility, if I have a large Xbox 360 library it’s quite obvious that I also have an existing Xbox 360 so I can simply use that. Granted extra features are always nice but lack of backwards compatibility is not a system killer for me.

We’ve already been told by Microsoft that the Xbox One won’t be able to play Xbox 360 titles but during an interview with Major Nelson we found out that’s not entirely correct. You can actually play Xbox 360 titles through the Xbox One.. if you have an Xbox 360 already.

The Xbox One is the only console coming to the market with an HDMI-in port and according to Larry you can plug your Xbox 360 into this port and presumably then play Xbox 360 titles while snapping in that annoying Skype chat.

In all seriousness this is actually quite an awesome idea and the most elegant solution to having two consoles that you want to use.

That’s not all Major Nelson said though. Another big worry is whether or not you would lose access to your online Xbox One library if your annoying brother gets you banned from Xbox Live.

Thankfully this won’t be the case with Larry answering

"Absolutely not,"

“You will always have access to the games you’ve purchased.”

That’s good to know, so look at that. Two good news stories about the Xbox One in one article.. is the tide changing?

Too little too late. I am happy with my Xbox360 and my future PS4. Though good news about the banning as there was a lot being said over the weekend that the T&Cs state otherwise.

Backwards compatibility via Gaikai is a better prospect. No console purchase required, after all. The trade off is that you need a really good line.

The appeal is that current-gen 360 owners will be able to access some of Sony’s best exclusives on their PS4’s. This reverse is not true for the Xbox One.

Kotaku had an interesting one-on-one QA grilling with MS http://kotaku.com/the-xbox-one-believers-513819282
They are listening to their gamers but the online DRM thing, well I doubt that’s not going anywhere after reading the responses from Phil. The online thing seems more like a cover up to add processing to the X1 rather than anything else.

So you can play 360 games through your One when your 360 is plugged into your One? ……. So now I can play Lost Odyssey while Skyping?

Good point, I guess the online requirement would carry over. Why is this good news?
I prefer to pack up my older consoles, and take them out when I feel like playing a certain game. FFXII has 220 hours invested.

This is the best analogy because ms also wants to lead the way in using live action in games, like sega did with the sega saturn. progressive errogance on ms’s part, using old ideas and pretending your’s was the original, its like Trent Reznor making a remix cd of vivi(sect) and parading it around like something new because the majority of people won’t know the diference

You can’t fault the guy for loving his 360. It was a good console. He isn’t advocating Microsoft’s practices, so it’s fine. Gavin, you gotta give up and get a PS4, my man. It’s
      time to move on.

Thanks for replying Geoff. I appreciate your effort. I like the fact that we as South Africans have a gaming site were we can lay our opinions for other South Africans to debate and argue about is awesome. We just need some people that can comment on actual experiences and not what they read about here and there. I have been in the IT industry for 15 years and gaming for even longer and what you read on the net is not always the truth, rather a short sighted written document of one guys opinion that goes viral…. I don’t go reviews as some of the most enjoyable movies and games for me have gotten rotten ratings… But that is once again the opinion and ratings of one person as there is no set standard…

NO YOU GUYS. PLUG THE PS4 INTO THE XBOX ONE. We can play both consoles at once!!!! We may unite these two rivals, so that all of the fanboys can be happy. Is your household split between Microsoft and Sony? NOT ANYMORE!!!! Although maybe both companies thought of this. And both put bombs inside of the consoles, so that if you put them together, they would blow up, because it is forbidden to combine the two.

Actually, I would pick the xbox over playstation because even with PS4’s change on their controller to include triggers, it still is NOT comfortable for me to play for any length of time. I have a tendon missing in my left hand and the way the xbox controller is designed, I can play it for hours and hours without having any issues with my hand cramping up. PS has always given me problems after about 20 minutes because of the analog sticks. If they had the same analog placement, I probably wouldn’t have any issues.

It’s stupid to have two systems sucking up power, when you only need to run one. Also, I’ve tested playing my PC games through my Xbox, since I only have one HDMI port on my monitor. This way, I wouldn’t have to keep unplugging one, then plugging in the other…there’s a latency/ lag in doing this. The HDMI in port is sluggish, shaving milliseconds off of your response time. You eventually get used to it, but once you unplug it and go direct into your monitor again, it becomes apparent.

I’m big on backwards compatibility. Many people who purchase a nextgen console, trade their existing in on it, to save money. Backwards compatibility would make it so that you can still play your Xbox 360/ Original catalog.

360 arcade titles I own…is Microsoft going to make those available for Xbox one,in the future? Will I have to re-purchase those titles? That would suck, because though I wouldn’t want to keep them all(some are simply one and done). The least MS could do is re-imburse some of the thousand points I paid for/used for games. I understand any given day,a game could be discontinued. Seriously, though,I’ve soaked a lot of money into Xbox. I don’t need games for the rest of my life. Society is really going with easily digestible, and disposable for all media, anymore. Maybe I’ll go back to Sony. PS4 sounds like the way to go,this cycle.
