Rumour: Batman Arkham Asylum and City remasters in development

Batman ArkhamBatman Arkham remasters coming? remasters coming?.jpg

Just when you thought there would only be one remaster this week. We kicked off this morning with the surprising news of a God of War III remaster that is currently in development, and one that I personally think is incredibly unnecessary. I think of that for most modern remasters, but if there’s one that I certainly wouldn’t mind, it’s the Batman Arkham games. A remaster which is, apparently, very real.

Before anything, Darryn called it. He honestly did.

According to sources close to IGN Italy, a remastered collection of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City is currently in development and set for a Christmas launch. The collection is supposedly coming to Xbox One and PS4, although that’s pretty much all there is to go on at the moment. IGN Italy felt that this was enough to post a breaking story on it, so they must trust their sources.

We can, however, pick things apart and speculate a little. Considering the collection is only for Xbox One and PS4, I think it’s relatively safe to assume that there’s nothing more than a 1080p/60FPS bump going on here. That would bring the games relatively close to what they looked like on PC at launch – meaning a PC re-release would be rather pointless. Hopefully all the DLC is thrown in there, especially the fantastic Harley Quinn’s Revenge epilogue to Arkham City.

The release window is also a bit confusing, considering the two games preceding Arkham Knight will only arrive on current-gen consoles months after the concluding chapter launches. At this point, is there really any reason to remaster them?

Either way, with the rumour out in the open, it’s up to Rocksteady and Warner Bros. to either deny or confirm it at this stage. Although I highly doubt it’s not coming sooner or later.

Bring some new games. We’ve had those games, we’ve played them, we loved them. Now leave them be.

That is one good thing yes.
They should put a limit on these though.
Say no remake or remaster is allowed until the game is at least 15 years old.

        Exactly.
The thing for me with old games though is that if I replay them I don’t it being the way that it was on release. That’s how I remember it. And on a pc you CAN replay your old games. I definitely won’t buy an old game for the price of a new game just for better graphics and smoother animations and gameplay.

My God this gaming industry is despicable. The gaming industry is now only focused on getting every single penny you have. The gaming industry is spending so little, the bare minimum, to create empty, shallow, 5 hour, DRM, no value, re-told stories, same old gaming engines, piss easy, hand holding, quick time, uneventful, shit, gaming, experience.

Now the gaming industry is jumping onto this remastered, begging for money, bandwagon.

Don’t Support remastered shit. The Witcher 3 is coming. CD Projekt RED said no to remastering the previous Witcher games because they would rather spend their time working on new games (Cyberpunk 2077) than going back to work on old shit.

idiots need to stop buying remakes/remastered games and the industry will start making new games when they realise no money is coming in

but unfortunately video game consumers are one of the dumbest consumer groups that will run out and buy these remade games

          DRM.
Release broken games and patch it later means they supporting the games and can’t get sued.

Ever hear the phase, There’s a sucker born every minute.

There are gamers who only know about DRM gaming, DLC gaming, Day 1 patches and now remastered games for all the new kids who started gaming.
The number of these idiot gamers are so fucking high and that’s why Steam is not DRM anymore but it is, DLC is just expanding the game but it’s not with expensive skins and horse armor, Day 1 patch means they supporting the game but it’s not when games are released early for your dumb ass to buy it broken.

The gaming industry is not really at a point where they investing in creating new games and making sure those games are good before releasing them.
To me it seems like the gaming industry is working hard to get every single piece money they can get in the next few years until there is a big gaming industry crash. When the next consoles are released with DRM, the gaming industry will crash. They trying to get as much people online so that the crash is not that bad.

So by 2016 we can expect a Shadow of Mordor remaster then? Since it seems a game doesn’t need to be old to get a remaster.

Just look at The Last of Us and GTAV – ‘remastered’ for new-gen almost within a year of release.

The Last of Us is really good and is exclusive to Sony. A lot of Xbox 360 users went with getting a PS4. So there was a lot of new Sony users wanting The Last of Us.

GTA 5 was so shit on Xbox 360. Just a mess of blocks. The character looked ok and about a meter in front of the character was fine but anything after that meter was just shitty mess.
So GTA5 remastered was about the way the game was meant to be played. Not a last attempt at old gen cash grab.

Both Batman games were not exclusive and was on both Xbox 360 and PS3. Are there so many new gamers who never played Batman games before to warrant remasters or is this meant for nostalgia. If nostalgia costs $60 they can fuck off.

I have a nice gaming monitor and a nice TV. The first time I played GTA 4 it was fine on my crt monitor. I would still prefer to game on a crt monitor. Anyway, going back to play GTA 4 all I could notice was the shit. I couldn’t even play it anymore. When playing GTA 5 i noticed the same shit, can’t remember if it was worse or not, but still there. It was not so nice playing GTA 5. I just wanted the PC version for the blocky shits to go away.

Yeah the character and about a few meters in front of the character. So to include the car. Why does that tree look so blocky and shitty. Let me go look. Stands next to tree. Oh it looks nice now. Why does that other tree over there look like blocks and all shitty. Let em go look.

R700 online for a PC game. R800 in-store for a PC game. And with DRM too. Ya. Rockstar can fuck off.
I’ll wait for the $5 Steam Winter Sale. Now $5 is the proper price for DRM shit.

The Witcher 3 is R499 online and R550 in-store. That’s still too much but there’s no DRM so there’s some retail value you paying for.

          • Captain JJ the damned

            March 23, 2015 at 15:23

I’ll happily pay R600 for a new game if it’s decent.
That doesn’t bother me. But don’t ask $60 for a game that’s a year and a half old and then try to justify it by saying there’s extra content. Riiight. You mean the stuff that was meant to be there on release for the consoles too?

          • Ryanza

            March 23, 2015 at 15:48

R600 for a PC game is too much. I think R450 is the ok price now a days. Remember PC games have DRM with makes them useless. R450 is just the retail costs and the petrol to get the game to retail.

            March 23, 2015 at 15:55

I paid R300 for Total Annihilation Special Edition 15 years ago. So R600 for a decent game now isn’t too much. For me at least.
With DRM I agree with you though. That changes some things.

          • Ryanza

            March 23, 2015 at 16:10

R300 for a special edition of Total Annihilation. I wonder how much value that would have today if still in decent condition.
How much value will The Witcher 3 collectors edition have 15 years from now. I hope some1 will cancel a PC collectors edition so i can buy it and never open it. But fuck I can’t spend close to R6000 on one fucking game.

          • Captain JJ the damned

            March 23, 2015 at 16:20

Very true. Unfortunately Total Annihilation was my favourite game, so it’s been properly used. The booklet too. But it’s all good. It’s still nice to use.

Not saying it’s a bad thing in those cases – The Last of Us is a great game and deserves to be enjoyed by all! Just saying time doesn’t seem to count anymore when determining when to ‘remaster’ something. If it was on last-gen, not new-gen, then it’s fair game seemingly…

yeah, but those aren’t quite remasters.

It was pretty clear that the games coming out at the tail end of the 360/PS3’s lifecycle would come to PC and next-gen.

That’s just logical. Some devs would work on old/new gen simulataneously (eg AC:Black Flag / NFS:Rivals, BF4 etc) and others like TLOU and GTA5 would nail the launch for current gen first, then port to new hardware.
