Call of Duty is arguably the world’s most popular shooter; the billions of dollars it generates in sales every year is testament to that. The series hasn’t really had much impact in the eSports scene, but that’s changing, with the recently announced Million Dollar Call of Duty tournament hosted by Activision and Xbox in Los Angeles this April. And one lucky South African Call of Duty fan will be going there, to see it all go down.
Yeah, that’s right, Megarom will be sending one Call of Duty uberfan to Los Angeles next month, including flights and accommodation – and entry to one of the largest gaming tournaments ever. You’ll get to got to LA for the first ever international Call of Duty Championship from April 5 – 7 to see 32 of the world’s top 4-person teams – including one from South Africa - compete in Call of Duty: Black Ops II for a share of $1 Million.
“More people play Call of Duty multiplayer every day than watch the average regular season game of the NBA. The scale and passion of the Call of Duty fan base is simply humbling, and yet there is no formal way to find out who amongst those millions of players is the best of the best, until now,” said Activision’s Eric Hirschberg of the event.
