Crysis 3 is a hallmark of gaming graphic excellence – and is currently available on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It, like many current games, is not on the Wii U. You might believe it’s because the console just doesn’t have the horsepower to run such a game – but that’s not the case.

According to Crytek, they actually have the game up and running on Nintendo’s new console – but corporate shenanigans have gotten in the way of release.

“We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U. We were very close to launching it,” Crytek Boss Cevat Yerli told VentureBeat.

“But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that. Since we as a company couldn’t launch on the Wii U ourselves – we don’t have a publishing license – Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die.”

I find it odd that EA and Nintendo don’t have a strong relationship. If you’ll recall, when the console was first announced, EA head John Riccitiello took to the stage to announce a strategic partnership with Nintendo, promising to bring a number of EA’s heavy hitters to the console.

EA’s released FIFA, Mass Effect 3 and soon, Need for Speed: Most Wanted on the Wii U – so the lack of Crysis really makes little sense if the game’s pretty much ready to launch.

Either way, it’s a pity all round – because what the Wii U really needs, more than anything else, is some great games from third parties. It’s a wonderful system, but the lack of games is becoming a little disconcerting.

The Wii U is following in the footsteps of the GameCube. It will be a quick death.
