Release dates are almost irrelevant for games that require a constant online connection. Sure you could physically get the game on launch day, but you’re at the mercy of the servers when it comes to actually starting. So with Destiny on the horizon, when exactly will we be able to hop in?

Most of the time we’re forced to wait for the USA to catch up with the rest of the world, with game servers usually synched to on of their time zones. This isn’t going to be the case for Destiny though, as the game will officially go online as soon as the first time zone rolls into September 9th. That means no waiting for anyone picking up Destiny on launch day.

It also means that when you’re able to start your Guardian’s adventure is entirely up to you and your retailer. If you happen to get the game late on September 8th you could start playing, something which was basically encouraged by Bungie on Twitter.

So for once there’s no need to worry about whether staying up for a midnight launch will be worth it or not. As soon as you get your hands on Destiny locally, you’ll probably be able to play it immediately. Destiny launches on September 9th for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Too many bad memories of Error 37 on day one to recommend you doing that.

True. And it does make me a bit nervous. But me hopes that if the beta taught us anything, it’s that their servers seem to be able to handle the load. I played it pretty much everyday / evening and I never had an issue logging in. Hoping that’ll be the case too on launch day. 🙂

I would still rather wait for a week honestly, way too many memories of Diablo III and Sim City.
