What’s your favourite games console of all time?

Totally the NES, by the way.

I got my first video game console – an Atari 2600 -  around about the time that I was born. Not too long after that, I got a NES – admittedly one of those Hong Kong bootlegs, lovingly known locally as the “Golden China.” That was the system that really turned me in to a gamer – thanks to incredible titles like Super Mario Bros (particularly super Mario Bros 3, possibly my favourite game of all time, ever thanks to wonders of nostalgia and sentimentality).

Since then, I’ve had – or spent terrible amount of time playing on – just about every major console. It’d be tricky to narrow down the list to just one favourite. Do I go with the one that started my real love of video games, or underdog machines like SEGA’s Dreamcast that burrowed their way in to my heart, or the PlayStation 2 with its unparalleled library of amazing games.  Tricky, but it’s what I’m asking you to do right now.

Tell us…what’s your favourite games console or handheld of all time? Oh, if it’s the PC – you’re welcome to say so too.

I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
