There have been quite a few negative stories around Watch Dogs recently with the rumours that the development is struggling and that the Wii-U port had been cancelled but it looked really bad yesterday when it was revealed that the Watch Dogs trademark had been marked for abandonment.
According to an official spokesperson from Ubisoft the request to abandon the trademark was filed fraudulently and Ubisoft definitely do not wish to abandon the name.
“On February 1, 2014, Ubisoft Entertainment received an email from TEAS@uspto.gov notifying Ubisoft Entertainment that a Request for Express Abandonment had been filed in connection with Application Serial No. 85642398. The Request for Express Abandonment purports to be signed by the Chief Executive Officer of Ubisoft Entertainment, Yves Guillemot,” Ubisoft wrote.
“Mr. Guillemot, however, did not sign the Request for Express Abandonment, nor did Ubisoft Entertainment file the Request for Express Abandonment. The Request for Express Abandonment is fraudulent and was not filed by Ubisoft Entertainment or its representative.”
Watch Dogs is planned for the second quarter of the year with local retailers still showing a 30th of May release date for all platforms including the Wii-U. Except for the Xbox One version which has a release date of the 28th of November but I’m 100% sure that’s because we don’t yet have a local Xbox One release date besides the October leak.

It was only a rumour and a pretty bad one at that. It wasn’t listed on Nintendo’s expected games of 2014 (but that list only lists games that can be downloaded from the eshop).
