The caddie system works very well and I found very little fault in any of the suggested approaches. You can ignore your course counselor and choose your own shot and in some cases will be required to, when the caddy is unable to make a reading on his own. The caddy does give you very useful tips at times, especially when it comes to the putting. These tips range from green speed to the amount of distance you should aim on either side of the cup, all while motivating you in a calm and soothing voice – his faith in you will never dwindle even when you standing on a double bogey finish.

There is also a focus shot that will increase your accuracy but you have a limited amount of focuses per round. Based on the rounds performance and certain objectives you will gain XP that is used to upgrade your player’s stats. Tiger woods 12 plays well and looks good while doing so, and in no time you will find yourself engrossed in the game albeit that the actual game-play itself hasn’t changed much from last years installment.

Besides the Road to the Masters career you can also play through nine different scenarios in the “Masters Moments”. This mode re-enacts some of the moments that shaped the previous Masters, these events can vary from chipping a single shot to trying to achieve back to back birdies on consecutive holes which can become tricky.

Keeping in the vein of The Masters, you can also play a mode called Tiger at The Masters which features the 1997, 2001, 2002, 2005 and the current 2011 Masters in which you will have to reach or better Tiger’s actual score for that year. Finally there is also the Presidents Cup, which is a team based event between the United States and an international team representing the rest of the world.

They still make use of the club tuning system and the store is intact as always for when your sponsors decide to be stingy with the goods. Tiger Woods 12 is packed full of events and modes that will keep you busy for a long time.

Conclusion:

Overall Tiger Woods 12 is a great game that will keep you coming back for more and more. The caddy system is a great addition and when paying careful attention will aid your actual game. If you have been a long time fan of the series you have undoubtedly already picked your copy up, however if you were concerned that it would just be another Tiger Woods it is, but with the refreshing new theme around The Masters, additional game modes and the new caddy system you won’t feel like you are playing a re-skinned update of the previous Tiger Woods 11.

Scoring

Gameplay: 8.5
The new “Road to the Masters” is a welcomed change to the previous career modes as well as the course objectives, sponsor requirements and the new game modes. It’s a well-rounded golf game as it always has been.

Presentation: 8.0
The game is far from the rough with its clean, sleek menu’s and the window based around your Masters progress. It’s a great looking game with stunning visuals.

Sound: 7.5
The course sounds, voice work and commenting is of high standard, just a pity EA ditched the good music that normally comes with any of their games for a more docile soundtrack.

Value: 9.0
Tiger Woods is a vast game that will keep you coming back for hours of play whether it be playing towards The Masters, recreating Masters moments or playing a good four ball with a couple of friends, you’re going to get your money’s worth.

Overall: 8.5
