The next Xbox will be 6 times more powerful than the 360 Popular
   January 25th, 2012 clock image 10:00 am

HD6670

According to rumours being spread by IGN and Fudzilla the next Xbox is already designed and it’s going to be 6 times more powerful than the existing system and it’s going to make you coffee in the morning as well.

Not only that but it will also be 20% more powerful than the Wii-U which kind of impressed me, I didn’t actually know the Wii-U was going to be that powerful.

Either way I’m not impressed by stats and rumours about power, I didn’t ever believe the PS3 would be far superior to the Xbox 360 and I’m not going to believe the new Xbox’s stats either.

It doesn’t matter what’s in the box it matters how it’s used and how easy and efficient the coding is for it.

What all the rumours do now have in common though is that the new Xbox will be released in October/November next year which makes Modern Warfare 3 a perfect launch title along with the Gears of War prequel that may or may not be announced yet.

Oh and no that’s not the wrong header image, the rumour also states that the next Xbox will sport the current Radeon HD 6670 chipset which is currently priced at $79.99

Are gamers ready for World War II again?

The Darkness 2 official trailer released

    Hmmm…..

Will wait for the mid 2014 re-release of the non-ROD xbox….

There isn’t really a worse feeling than purchasing a new piece of hardware and it breaks on you the first month…depressing.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JI422YSUYHEEX2FJPHJZPXX5IQ Syth Za

Cool, now everyone can “play” even prettier party games with the Kinect! :)

    • http://twitter.com/JimLenoir James Lenoir

EINA, but true!  While, I’ll continue being a multiplatform gamer well into the next gen (oh my poor absent kidneys), I’m really not keen on kinect everywhere. There’s a reason why I skipped the wii, and if the xbox next is all about party fun time, then dear god… I’ll be shaking my fist in disgust.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JI422YSUYHEEX2FJPHJZPXX5IQ Syth Za

Agreed. I had the Wii and love the Mario franchise. Still have PS and Xbox and love both of them. I still prefer the PS though, much easier to watch stuff from an external and play music on it, and still in love with GT5 and the PS exclusives. But from a pure gaming point of view, the Xbox is great, altough lacking exclusives.

Would I buy the new Xbox? Not really…Alan Wake is coming to PC so my main reason for owning an Xbox is no longer valid!

  • Uberutang

6670? What? That card is ok for PC now, but nowhere near where console makers should be aiming at! That is not going to get you BF3 on Ultra at 1080P on a 50″ screen and that is today.

MS needs to be 2 years ahead of current ‘gamer’ pc. Not 2 years behind.

Wii-U… anybody have the actual specs on it. Sounds beefy!

    • Anonymous

True hey, consoles should consider how fast the pc world moves, and they also expect consoles to have 10 year life spans.

    • http://twitter.com/doobiaus Craig D

They just got their foot in the door with Kinect and the ‘casual’ market, who typically only buy when the device is $200-$300. My guess is they’re trying to contains cost … and heat.

      • Uberutang

NEW HD7xxxx cards run cooler, uses less power.

They should look at that at the very least. Cost cutting, yeah maybe, but casual joe does not care about graphics, he just wants to flaps his arms around in front of the tv with little Timmy. They need not build a new xbox for that.

  • Henk Roux

I’m sure it will be pretty easy to code indie games for if MS keeps up the XNA framework like they’ve been doing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Theo-Steenekamp/100000464298189 Theo Steenekamp

Rather pop in something like a 6870 or 6950 in there, tone down the architecture of the current boards and place it in a sweet new Xbox case :P

    :p

… please, goodness, can we have a little bit of common sense this time around. “Consumer Electronics”, lets go with that.

I’m intrigued to see where they go with the rest of the architecture, with ATI/AMD now doing “APU” I wonder if they’re going to change the CPU from Power back to x86, or maybe even ARM if they’re stealing stuff from Windows 8.

  • DaveO

There is no ways they are using an HD6670 and can claim that the new XBOX is 6 times more powerful. This article is bogus.

    • Anonymous

“According to rumours being spread by IGN and Fudzilla”
Common sense will do the rest…

  • FreeStanler

Only 6 times stronger? After all these years?

According to Moore’s Law the new XBOX should be 14 times stronger at the speculated time.

Zoolander: “Do you think I’m stoopid?!? That Xbox must be at least…6 times stonger!” Pffff…

  • Anonymous

Agree, the next-gen hasn’t even been announced yet so anything is pure speculation at this point. Although, I can’t help but wonder with these persistent rumours if MS & Sony don’t have a hand in all of it.

  • http://twitter.com/JimLenoir James Lenoir

A thought just crossed my mind, you know how the xbox 360 lacks exclusives for 2012, or lacks them in general bar one or two games that was released last year and the year before?  When the first xbox was being phased out, the gaming well also dried up as MS was getting ready to release the 360. In fact, the xbox 1 was summarily dumped. Microsoft had no intention to support the first box further than it had to, and maybe they have no intention to support the current console post release of the Xbox Next. It’s a completely different mindset from Sony, who seems to support their consoles well after a new version has hit the stands.

    • Anon A Mouse

You may have a point there. As for Sony they are still making money off the PS2 so why kill it, I don’t think the conversion rate to PS3 was massive enough for them to just kill the PS2. But I’m sure Sony will now hold out until the PS4 is 7 times faster than the current PS3 and will be able to bring the coffee to your bedside table as well.

  • http://twitter.com/NoodleZA Jarrod Lane

The rumours I read yesterday point at a 7000 chipset not the 6670. If that IS the case southern islands on a 360. hellz yeah!

    • Uberutang

7000 makes sense tbh. Low power use, standby mode, fantastic performance, low heat. And DX11.1 out the box. That would work really well in any console (Hell I want one for my PC just to save power!)

      • FoxOneZA

I want my AVATAR scale graphics mkay? No, not Kinect AVATAR graphics, James Cameron AVATAR graphics!

  • Anonymous

I highly highly doubt it will be released next year. If so then sony really have got a lot of catching up to do based on their ” still on plan for 10 year cycle” comments the CEO made last month

Plus 6 times isn’t really that impressive based on original performance and current pc performance levels. They would barely get 5-6 years out of that hardware before it will be seriously out of date again.

In anycase they need to pack the machines full of RAM

    • Anonymous

Not necessarily, most people forget that the PS2 is still being sold, and the PS3 launched 7 years after the PS2, the PS3 is currently in it’s 6th year.  So, if the PS4 launches in Nov of 2012 (unlikely given it’s had no announcement yet), it’ll follow Sony’s normal Modus Operandi.

The important thing to remember though is that the PS3 will likely continue to be sold, unless Sony plans on completely changing their forumula.

Absolutely agree on the RAM part though, if they don’t have at least 2g of RAM in there, it’s a design failure imo.

    • http://twitter.com/schroederrock Chris Schroeder

6x more powerful than current 360?  That’s actually quite a performance increase.  Think about it… 600%!  Whether it’s a 6 or 8 core config or something different hasn’t been confirmed, but a super Xbox 360 is as good or better than the best rig gaming rig you can assemble for under $1500 right now!  The GPU should be really great for at least 4-5 years since they’re going with a graphics series that isn’t even out yet, and going for the top-peformer.  You’ll get a superb gaming machine for (likely) $400-$500.  That’s a bargain at launch. I’d be stoked if they went to a SSD setup internally. Dunno if that’s possible with price points, but think about how fast your boot process would be and how loaded games onto the internal drive would load in no time at all… drooling.

  • http://twitter.com/schroederrock Chris Schroeder

How did you come up with your facts?  Not even close!  1) There is no release date for the next Xbox 360 so you’re speculating.  2) An AMD/IBM chip has been confirmed, code-named OBAN, for the next Xbox.  3) It’s an HD 7000 series GPU being used, not a 6670 (massive difference in performance).  Where the heck did you get these facts?  PC World ran an article in their mag this month about it and it’s all over the internet as well about what this console has (loosely) confirmed for its innards.  The word is it’ll be 6x more powerful than the current Xbox 360.  The Wii-U is said to be slightly more powerful than the 360/PS3.  So the “720″ or whatever it’s going to be called is going to be more like 100%-200% faster than the Wii-U, unless Nintendo do a switcheroo on their hardware before going into production (if they haven’t already done so).
