The newly designed Xbox 360 is guaranteed not to Red Ring… Popular
   June 17th, 2010 clock image 12:15 pm

NewXbox360

The corporate vice president of Microsoft Game studios, Phil Spencer, has been chatting to IGN about the new Xbox 360 and we have received a guarantee of sorts about the new consoles never being able to red ring.

But that doesn’t mean they won’t fail

“Now obviously, the box has a way to communicate to you if something has happened…but yes, three red lights are not part of our sequence of telling somebody something is wrong. Obviously if you look at the success rate of the original 360s, we’re very proud of both the way the company stepped up to support the customers that we had as well as the success rate we have with the box today. I think we’ve learned a lot. That learning has gone into the development of this [new] box”

It’s no surprise really, the RROD has been the biggest PR disaster for the Xbox brand in this generation and even though the latest consoles have been really stable it hasn’t been able to distance itself from those initial failures.

Let’s just hope we are not now inundated with a whole new type of error that we’ll need a new name for.

  • Bobby Kotick has Red cheeks

I suppose it won’t RROD, because they merely removed the red LED lights :P *sarcasm*

But…that’s why I’m so cautious about the xbox 360 slim. The RROD issue was supposed to have been fixed with the elite or xboxes with the new chipsets, but it eventually turned out they merely disguised the error in the new consoles.

Another issue is the disk scratching problem, granted any gamer knows not to move the xbox when it’s running, but what about minor vibrations caused by jumping kids (or overweight adults) when they’re playing with the Kinect? I really wish MS would take a page from Sony and Nintendo’s book and design all their consoles to be earthquake compliant.

lol , bobby u sure have a way with words ,

” I really wish MS would take a page from Sony and Nintendo’s book and design all their consoles to be earthquake compliant.”

    ….timeless :cwy:

  • Simon

Bobby is probably right. Same shit, different box.

  • Bobby Kotick thinks Moneysoft should have reconsidered naming Natal … Kinect

I’m hoping the new box won’t be a melon, but after 5 years of more of the same, I have to go with Moneysoft’s past behaviour. :cwy:

  • Ryan

My Xbox RROD twice and I’m planning to shelve it. Not only is the quality of the console bad, MS customer service is horrible as well .Maybe I should just move over to Sony…

  • WitWolfyZA

    Go to the LIGHT!!!!

  • Bobby Kotick wants to KINECT with you!

Turns out it won’t give you a RROD error but instead it will display a red dot (enter the RED DOT OF DEATH error). That’s how you deal with a serious hardware problem folks, you just change how it gets displayed.

    Facepalm at Moneysoft! :getlost:

  • http://N/A Tmaswupass

I’ve had xbox elite for about a year and couple of months now.Question is,,when the new box come to the market and it happens i get an RROD then i ship it to MS as it possible they will replace it with the sleek and new slim box?Anybody Share SOme light PLZ..

  • Bobby Kotick wants to KINECT with you!

Probably not, they will send you a refurbished (frankenstein) xbox 360, although one of my mates in the states managed to get an elite off his RRODed jasper (or so he says), but we’re on the tip of Africa so expect a refurbished falcon or jasper, because they rarely if ever send out new units.

  • Fox1

Bad service? Had my nephews xbox replaced within 3 days and I’m on the coast.

  • Fox1

They won’t replace you with the new one. The power connectors will be different from yours.

Your Elite most probably has the innards of a Jasper. Rumour has it that the Jasper chips were put in xbox’s before the actual official release.

To prevent the RRoD, just keep your most popular games installed to the hard drive.

  • ewie

You can walk into power-care with a RROD Xbox and your till slip and within 10 minutes, walk out with a
    working Xbox ?

They had problems a year ago when they took over, but these days, it is a quick and easy process.

  • http://N/A Tmaswupass

So if i install these games to the HDD will it prevent from getting RROD nightmare from happening @ all?wow did not know that..Thanks bud.

  • Bobby Kotick wants to touch you on your studio

Not necessarily (since the RROD issue is related to overheating), but it should extend the consoles lifetime though (less moving parts are always a good thing). I think the really sad part about the RRODing xboxes is the fact that Moneysoft navigated the perilous PR water with impeccable finesse. If it was Sony they definitely wouldn’t have survived. It’s not good news for us as consumers though, because it shows that a console designed on the premise of planned obsolescence will remain popular if you can sustain demand using software. People will buy a melon regardless of problems, provided that it’s fun. Therefore it wouldn’t surprise me if the new slim will have the same hardware issues with an average life span similar to its predecessor. In addition, I’ll bet a month’s salary that their next console will also be built with designed obsolescence in mind.

  • Q121

HAHA I have done this many times with a system…. Cant get rid of a certain warning or alarm…. just remove the alarm :) problem solved :)

  • http://www.lazygamer.co.za Gavin Mannion

I have to admit to doing the same thing when I haven’t been able to find the cause of a problem, just change the error message and people become happier

  • Steve Hofmeyr

Although the RROD fiasco is a big screwup by Msoft, I can’t help to believe that this is totally blown out of proportion. I’ve got one of the launch consoles which RROD’ed after 3 years. Got a new one with the new chipsets and no sign of issues. Same with 3 of my friends.
Saying Msoft is doing nothing to better or fix the problem is retarded since it’s costing them billions to upheld the warranty. Not to mention their reputation. Also thinking they want to repeat this mistake next gen is also pretty short sighted.
Looking at your comment history you already made up your mind regarding the RROD so what’s the point in arguing but at least you are hiding your ignorance with pretty words while trying to be funny so well done.
