The Holiday season’s 20 most wanted games

Quick! What do you think the top-selling game by the end of this year will end up being? If you guessed “The latest goddamned Call of Duty Game” you’d probably be right, though this year there is a rather serious contender for the crown in Grand Theft Auto V. According to Cowen analyst Doug Creutz, who tracked NPD and Amazon pre-order data and the like, these will be the biggest selling games this year.

Each title was given a numerical score based on a number of pattern-based analytical things that are too boring to even mention.

According to Creutz, their data is between 95 and 97 per cent accurate – though admits that the scoring for GTA V is "almost certainly" wrong, because the data’s only been compiled from pre-orders since E3, while GTA V has been available to pre-order since last year. The rest of it should give you a pretty good indicator though. Interesting to note is that people really, really seem to want Watch Dogs; the only new IP in a top 10 sea of sequels.

  • 1. Call of Duty: Ghosts (73)
  • 2. Watch Dogs (69.6)
  • 3. Grand Theft Auto V (58.4)
  • 4. Battlefield 4 (54.7)
  • 5. Killzone: Shadow Fall (30.3)
  • 6. Assassin’s Creed IV (29.2)
  • 7. Forza 5 (18.8)
  • 8. Diablo III (18.2)
  • 9. Batman: Arkham Origins (17.2)
  • 10. Dead Rising 3 (15.0)
  • 11. Ryse (13.2)
  • 12. Saints Row IV (10.1)
  • 13. Knack (7.7)
  • 14. Gran Turismo 6 (5.0)
  • 15. Beyond: Two Souls (3.3)
  • 16. Wolfenstein: The New Order (3.2)
  • 17. Drive Club (3.0)
  • 18. Splinter Cell: Blacklist (2.9)
  • 19. The Bureau: Xcom Declassified (0.4)
  • 20. South Park: The Stick of Truth (0.2)

It’s also interesting that pre-order numbers for Ghosts aren’t as high as those of the last one, Black Ops 2. Maybe gamers are tiring of the franchise.

What games are you hoping to find between the socks and bottles of cheap aftershave under your Christmas tree this year?

The fact that Arkham Origins is ONLY 9th is sad. Very very sad.

My Wishlist is Watch Dogs, Grand Theft Auto V, Assassin’s Creed IV, Batman: Arkham Origins, Dead Rising 3, Ryse, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, South Park: The Stick of Truth.

The order above is in the order it was on the list in the OP. Seeing as I won’t get the XBOne within the next year, that leaves 6 games I’m really looking forward to this holidays. Going to be a gaming heavy year.

I still have a whole library of exclusives to play. I just picked up the entire Resistance trilogy for 200 bucks. I’m going to need some lotion for my hands…for all the gaming…don’t look at me!

Only game I’ve pre-ordered this year is Total War: Rome II. I know that won’t disappoint. The Total War franchise never does. Wouldn’t mind trying my hand at the Batman games (but missed the Steam sale on the first two like a ninny).
