Tales from the Borderlands is out today

It’s common for games to receive a lengthy hype period leading up to it’s eventual launch. That’s what gets people excited and clambering for the game on release day, even if the wait feels excruciating. Telltale seemingly missed that class during Game Design 101, as they’ve decided to launch their take on the Borderlands universe right now.

Tales from the Borderlands is a brand new, five episode adventure set after the events of Borderlands 2. You’ll have control over two characters throughout the campaign: data-miner Rhys and con-artist Fiona. Based on some of the trailers it seems that Handsome Jack will still be affecting Pandora in some way, even after his not so healthy demise at the end of Borderlands 2.

Telltale made the surprise announcement on Twitter yesterday. Tales from the Borderlands will be out on Steam globally today, as well as on PS4 in Northern America. Xbox One owners will be able to jump in from tomorrow, while Xbox 360 and the rest of you PlayStation players will have to wait until December 3rd.

Pricing, on the other hand, is a little more confusing. On PC, you’re able to buy the whole season for $25 straight up, while on Playstation and Xbox you’re forced to buy the first episode and then purchase a separate Season Pass upgrade. On Playstation the first episode costs $5, with the upgrade coming it at $19.99. The entire bundle on Xbox is curiously cheaper though, with the first episode costing the same and the season pass only coming in at $14,99.

In regular Telltale fashion each episode will be launched periodically, and they usually have a 2 month gap between them. I’m personally more excited for this than Telltale’s other Game of Throne project, so getting to play it today makes me happier than Handsome Jack when he got his diamond encrusted pony. Who’s with me?

  1. Hey kids it’s story time. Now come sit here in front of the Screen and let uncle Telltale tell you one helluva story about pew pew guns and rebels doing sexy dances.

I’ll grab this, but only once all the episodes are out. Don’t want to wait for a few months between episodes.

I know right? And he doesn’t even tell us the really important stuff – like how many peas and is the game cinematic or a real game.

Sorry, but everytime I hear the name Fiona, I think “Scotty doesn’t know…” 🙂

Shweet – another Telltale game. I’m all for that!! But may wait till all the episodes are out before purchasing it – don’t like waiting months between cliffhangers! 😉
