South Africa gets dedicated Gears of War 3 servers

Gears of War 3 is great. The single player is deliciously cheesy and a heck of a lot of fun, but more important than that is that its multiplayer component is pretty darn fantastic, harkening back to the halcyon days of the first Gears of War, but with enough substance to keep newcomers happy. Unfortunately, it still takes ages to find multiplayer games – especially ranked ones, and when a multiplayer game finally starts, it tends to be you and a bunch of bots. Your friends can join that game – but it’s all peer-to-peer, so the host still has the advantages of an especially powerful shotgun and less lag than everybody else.

What would change that, would be the introduction of local dedicated servers, but that would never happen..this is Africa, right? Wrong. Microsoft’’s announced that dedicated servers have gone live in South Africa.

As spotted by the folks at Zombiegamer:

I’m beyond excited that Microsoft and Epic have seen our territory as worthy of having a dedicated server (the first for console multiplayer games that I can recall) and hope that other publishers follow suit. Have any of you gears players noticed any changes? Is it easier to get in to ranked games?
