Sony getting irritated by all the Kinect advertising

On one hand it’s nice to see that these corporate executives are normal people like me and you but on the other hand complaining about your competitor is generally viewed as poor form.

The head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Andrew House, has been interviewed by MCV and while the entire interview is pretty standard fair you can see a little bit of corporate envy emanating from Andrew.

When asked about Kinect he responded with

"We know a marketing push is important around a launch window, but what will really drive adoption of new technology is going to be great content,"

Which is fair enough but then he goes on to say

"You can only sustain a certain amount of momentum just based on trying to ram product at people based on a strong marketing push. It really will be content that defines it."

Ouch… and to be fair Sony’s Move launch lineup was about an anaemic as Kinect’s so neither company has much room to talk.

Though you can bet that Andrew wouldn’t be complaining if he was given a half a billion dollar marketing budget for the Move.

And yet the peripheral still sucks… What they really need is more exclusives for 2011.

I don’t think that either Move or Kinect had a horrible launch. They both seem to be doing at least pretty decently.

Both need more games I want to play before I get them.

I’ve seen a LOT of Kinect on TV, and not just ads, but last night’s How I Met Your Mother had Barney giving his friends lots of gifts, and let’s just say that they didn’t hide Kinect…. lol

Kinect had a horrible launch? It sold 2.5 million to customers in 25 days. It is the fastest selling gadget in history

I really do not understand why people pay R 1999 for the kinect, but then again I am a PS3 fanboy, so nothing on the XBox makes sense, like the 120gb hdd for a trillion dollars etc.

Oh dear, Sony are in trouble, first they roll out some Move Engineer who probably had probably nothing to do because of poor sales who tells us Kinect won’t work blah blah blah

Now go back and look at those boring ads they had/have running everywhere
“It Only Does Everything” and that stupid Kevin Butler ad have been running non-stop as well.
And they splash their ads all over European football all around the pitch boards and on adverts inbetween the game, it’s bloody annoying.

Looks like Sony want to blame others for poor Move sales.
And now “Best Buy” shares have plummeted with people especially shunning TVs with 3-D.

@ “Marthinus” MS don’t make a 120gb hard drive get with the times and you can install any old 360 drive in the 360 S that you can now get for a few $. and you can also get a 3rd party 250gb drive in the S case for $52 new.and one big point is, “The 360 does not force you to install mass gbs of every game before you can even play it”.
PS3 has forced installs of games they HAD NO CHOICE other than to allow 3rd party drives or they would of had to put super expensive (at the time) 320gb hard drives in and that would of put the PS3 up even higher.

    @Luna

Don’t confuse Kinect sales with Move sales.
Kinect is selling amazingly well, Move has flopped…

Kinect has a lot of core games announced for 2011(mostly From NEW IPS not bolt ons) and MS keep a lot of what is coming out in the year until the show.

Move has an addon for Killzone and Socom coming (Why would you want to play killzone with Move it was repetitive enough without it ?). and that’s about it.
