Separate achievements for cross-gen Xbox games

Warning: OCD triggers contained within!  While your gamerscore will transfer with you when you move from Xbox 360 to Xbox One, cross-generational games will have distinct achievements.

In a Q&A with IGN, Marc Whitten (Chief Xbox One Platform Architect) explained:

Every game has its own set of achievements, so if you’re playing Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox 360 and on Xbox One, you can earn a separate set of Gamerscore in each game. But on the Xbox One version, you’re getting a much richer set of features, such as seeing your achievements progress on the Xbox One console, being able to unlock new achievements throughout the year, and earning real prizes inside and outside of the game. Xbox One also enables a new concept of challenges, where games will be offering special time-based opportunities to earn various goals and collect the rewards.

I understand that Xbox One will make achievements more valuable with challenges and all that.  I actually think that’s pretty cool.  However, I’m not sure I see the point in this – why make the achievements separate when the game is the same?  For people intent on completing all achievements, this takes things to a whole new level.  Not enough to let your OCD go into overdrive with a game, you have to do it AGAIN?  This just encourages people to try to cheat the system, if only to satisfy their inner completionist.

This doesn’t make much sense to me, isn’t it all tied to your Live account… so why are there differences between the platforms?

I’m getting Diablo 3 on 360 and will get it on Xbox one too should it come out on it and would be damned if I was unable to get my achievements again on the Xbox one play-through! But this whole argument make it sound as if everyone is going to buy all games on both platforms?
