Leaked images have surfaced showing off what’s purported to be the new motherboard for the Xbox 360. The most interesting thing about it, other than its reduced size is that the the GPU and CPU have been reduced to a single chip, with active cooling instead of just a heatsink and heat pipe.
This doesn’t seem to be just a revised version of the board either – it’s more of a complete redesign, and hints at the possibility of a 360 Slim on the way.
As these are leaked images – and the source is of Chinese origin which automatically raises flags of suspicion – we have no way of verifying their veracity – but it makes sense that 360 would be looking to produce a newer, sleeker, more cost effective 360 to launch alongside – and bundled with – upcoming motion control Project Natal.
I’m not too sure they can reduce the size of the 360 too much though, as it would have to maintain compatibility with existing accessories like the disproportionately priced hard drive.
One thing we can ALL hope for is that the slimming down of the 360 leads to a slimming down of its disastrous and infamous failure rate.
