The Xbox 360 has been doing really well in Japan of late, outselling even the very strong and supported Playstation 3.
So just when things start going well, it’s infamous fault, the Red Ring of Death decided to rear its ugly head in one of Japans most popular retail outlets. Now I don’t know about you, but if I was Microsoft then making sure that situations like this don’t happen would be on the top of my to-do list.
The truth is that even though there are newer and better chipsets coming out for the Xbox 360, the Red Ring of Death is still causing massive issues for gamers worldwide. It scares consumers, the idea of having a console that may just break down and die at any moment. The fact that the one on display in a store was doing so will most probably not help the cause for Microsoft at all.
If things like this keep happening then Japan will happily turn back to the Wii and the PS3 and Microsofts gaming console will be nowhere to be seen once again.

The reason it RROD is because it’s in an enclosed case,a PS3 would die just as fast

For some odd reason things like this just brings a chuckle
to my face. This must be right up there with the time
a “blue screen of death” popped up at a conference when they
demo’ed one of the Windows OS’s 🙂
Just to clarify,I’m not a PS3 fanboy.I just find really
bad timing extremely amusing 😉

When I bought my PS3 I was standing there in the shop looking at a dead 360 and a happy PS3 running a demo of I think Motorstorm 😉
Wonder how good the ventilation in those demo stands are? Surely they will have some ventilation areas at the back so the console can spit out the hot air, but did they think about where the fresh, cooler, air should come from?

I don’t think so, as you know it’s a design flaw on the Xbox. Ps3’s are kept in the same kind of conditions but they don’t get posted on the internet like this because they don’t break… I love both consoles but it’s just the way it is with the Xbox.

If it was overheating it would have had 2 rings not 3 rings. In any event a picture will decrease sales, the XBOX is a hot item in Japan at the moment and Sony must be worried that they are losing market share. There will have to be mass failures for it to affect sales and the price of the XBOX is the telling factor at the moment.

I wonder how much exposure that little RRoD would have gotten if someone didn’t post a picture of it on the internet.
