Rockstar swimming in the profits of micro transactions

Why so sad Uncle Donald

I’ve previously covered my dislike for the micro-transactions in GTA V. While a lot of people may agree with me we can say for sure that this isn’t going to change as it appears a lot more people are happy to fork out hard-earned cash to get pretty things in GTA Online.

According to an interview with MCV the decision makers over at Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, are more than happy to not release a new GTA annually or even bi-annually as the game has already sold over 32 million copies which is an incredible amount.

But not only that, they are going to be releasing DLC updates in the coming months which if they add more single player campaigns will likely be snapped up by nearly all the people who have played the excellent game.

And then on top of that the sleuths over at reddit have calculated, according to public statements and figures, that the micro transactions in Grand Theft Auto V have already raised more than $66 million for Take-Two.

70% of people who bought GTA V have played the online experience, 22.75 million, which means that on average each player has spent $3 buying online currency. With the number of sales set to explode when the game is released on PC and next gen consoles you can quite clearly see that Rockstar have neither rhyme nor reason to disable the online micro-transactions when they are such a money spinner.

I don’t really have anything against the concept of DLC or microtransactions. I just find the sheer amount of them being released for a game is getting out of hand, and more often than not it’s a ridiculous price compared to what you paid for the game initially.

I see why moving this way though – KA-CHING! People are such suckers.

Yip agree. Also detest the concept of DLC day one. And any publisher telling me it wasn’t cut from the main game, I just cannot believe! Whereas like Last of Us, there was some time in getting 1st DLC out and that makes sense. Forza is probably the biggest culprit!

I personally rarely play games day one due to massive, MASSIVE backlog so can pick them up cheaper down the road which helps a little.

I haven’t bought a game day one in almost 1.5 years now. I remember that date more clearly than the day I quit smoking lol.

Was telling friends on Sunday that I felt bad about having a massive games backlog, but with the way things are going now I’m starting to appreciate what I have.

I purchase my favs day one e.g. GT6. Will buy Destiny day one! But yeah I tend to wait for sales now; besides Sony give me games with PS+ and MS with Gold.

Yeah games getting very expensive now here in SA given exchange rate. So is nice to play something you already have for a change.

I never liked GTA Online much. The SP has so much soul and colorful characters that it loses over to the MP section
