Remember Me’s maniupulation of memories

RememberMe

If there’s one game on the horizon that has me grasped firmly by the balls, it’s DONTNOD and Capcom’s incredibly intriguing Remember Me; a game I’ve had the pleasure of briefly playing. Announced at Gamescom last year, it’s not quite on everybody’s radar just yet – but as we get closer to release next month, I suspect that will change.

It’s genuinely intriguing stuff – as this developer diary attests. It’s biggest hook – aside from superlative, insanely deep combat and 3rd-person action-platforming – is the fact that you can remix people’s memories, effectively creating new realities. Set in a futuristic Paris, it follows former memory hunter Nilin trying to piece her own life back together.

Here’s Creative Director Jean-Maxime Moris explaining it in a little more detail. It’s really, really good stuff. It’s coming to consoles AND PC in June.

I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.

Very intriguing game. I bet certain gaming companies wishes they could manipulate our memories.

      Like CoD?

No no that’s to unsubtle. You have to throw the line out & reel him in gently. Like this:

Isn’t there a FPS that already does that? :D

I was hoping to shock and confuse him. Like a deer in headlights. :P

      Maybe it’s for the best?

Why didn’t you do a Barbara Streisand header?…….

Memories, light the corners of my mind
Misty watercolor memories of the way we were…..

its like science bioshock in the future, and science
who am I and what am I doing here?

  • Anon A Mouse

But will it cure my hatred of CoD? Or perhaps help my OCD? What about my ADHD?

Another game to add to the buy-after-release-&-all-dlc-has-been-released list.

I’m not quite sold on this memory thing. It just seems like it could be time consuming and complicated messing with people’s memories in the game?

The one memory mixing segment I played really only took a few minutes – and there are just four of them in the game. It’s a big part of the game, without actually being a big part of the game.
