RaymanLegends

Rayman Legends is probably the single game I’m looking most forward to on the Wii U. It’s exquisitely beautiful, abounds with charm and plays like a platforming dream. It was scheduled to be released this month, but it’s now been pushed back to September – the same month as GTA V – to die. And people are pissed.

And the reason that people, Wii U owners specifically, are raging as if it’s a personal affront to their mothers? It’s not been delayed for any quality control reasons. The game is pretty much done and ready to ship. So why the delay?

It’s going multiplatform. Yes, it’ll now be headed to other consoles and Ubisoft, in it’s infinite wisdom decided that holding back the completed, no-longer-exclusive Wii U version so that all versions could be released simultaneously would be wise so as to not upset fans.

Here are some choice bits of venom directed at Ubisoft (curated by Dtoid) on their Facebook page following the multiplatform announcement:

”Fuck U – a Ubisoft exclusive to Wii U owners.” – Jason Harris

“You really don’t care about your customers or your brands….Really… Let’s play another Assassin’s Creed !!!!!1!!!!1!!” - Marco D’Onofrio

“Also I cant speak for everyone but with so many 3rd Party Devs fucking up these days you were the final straw for me Ubisoft. Thanks to you I no longer will be supporting ANY 3rd Party Dev on ANY system, dont care if its a PC game, Wii U game, PS4 game, or 720 game. You have killed off ANY support I give to ANY 3rd Party Devs. Im sticking with Nintendo’s 1st Party and 2nd Party devs for the entire 8th gen.” - Rey Hardy

“This is no different then when Crapcom low blowed everyone by cancelling Megaman Legends 3 for 3DS. I would be happier if the game was cancelled all together then this bullshit. You guys got greedy and lost what once made you good. You need to go bankrupt and start your company over again to get back your glory.” - Rey Hardy, again.

“What the hell Ubisoft? Promising one of the greatest platforming series of all time as a Wii U exclusive only to turn on us LESS THAN THREE WEEKS BEFORE ITS LAUNCH. You lost a ton of potential customers with this asinine business move.” - Nick Martini

“I just want to let you know that I will no longer be purchasing Legends.” - Austin McLaughlin

“?8====D die ubisoft, die” - Ahmad Sleiman Romero.

“WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS FUNNY? AT LEAST YOU WERE GOING TO GET A WHOLE LOT OF WII U OWNERS TO BUY YOUR GAME FOR SURE. AT LEAST YOU COULD HAVE RESTED FOR SURE THAT RGHT NOW RAYMAN COULD HAVE SOLD A GOOD AMOUNT OF COPIES. BUT GUESS WHAT, IT WILL PROBBABLY WON’T HAPPEN ANYMORE. WANT TO KNOW WHY? YOU LACK IN BUSINESS SKILLS. NOW YOU ARE GOING TO FUCKNG COMPETE WITH ZELDA, GTV AND OTHER AWESOME GAMES. IF YOU DON’T REVERSE THIS DECISIO AND AT LEAST HONOR THE WII U OWNERS EARLY COPIES, FUCK YOUR GAME AND I HOPE YOU DONT SELL SHIT!!!” - Steafh Ray Alvarez.

“There’s a difference in a consumer being entitled, or a consumer being lied to. None of us are bothered with the game being released on multiple consoles, whats frustrating is the wiius delay. You have a serious integrity issue here and as such lost me as a customer for this product and all others.” - Koop Hampsten.

“Ubisoft if you really cared about the fans. 1: You should release the Wii U version right now and release the xbox and ps version later, theres no point in launching all at the same time. 2: You should keep your words of saying that it was a Wii U exclusive, because now you guys are loosing credibility. 3: With this announcement, im no longer getting this game, because i feel cheated and betrayed by you guys, that only looked like a “make more money move”. 4: You Ubisoft totaly lost one costumer, now i wont buy any of your courrent and future games, why?, because you lied to us, you lied to your fanbase, goodbye ubisoft.” - Pk Starstorm Omega.

“Well Ubisoft, I think I’ll take my pre-order off now. Not really angry because it’s coming on other systems, but Nintendo hypes your game up through Nintendo Directs and even allows you to put a demo on the eShop. Nintendo trusted you… And you literally betrayed them. I might get the game used, I’m not sure. Not really in the mood of supporting you after this.” - DigitalgreenTea Dgt.

I hope everyone who has posted today has made Ubisoft come to their senses… Still disgusted and Shocked and mainly I feel cheated , lied and stabbed ..” - James Mckenzie.

“Ubisoft you money hungry imbeciles, how the hell can you announce the game one year earlier as an exclusive and then next year release it for multi platform. I myself havent bought the WiiU but you have backstabbed the the whole Nintendo fanbase. I think its really pathetic, why have three consoles out when no exclusivity from you publisher being released. By the way when is ZombiU coming to ps/xbox 360 ???” - Adam Socha.

“God! I just want to punch one of you Ubisoft pricks in the face! Why the hell do you hate Wii U owners so much? You making ZombiU multiplatform too now? Why didn’t you bring Far Cry 3 over to Wii U if this is your logic?” - Seth Hauschild.

“Well Ubisoft.. How does it feel fucking the Nintendo fanbase over by delaying a game that was set to be exclusive to Wii U? We get a lot of flame from Nintendo Haters, Now you making this shit worse… Fuck you Ubisoft.” – Angel Luis Mercado.

“You screwed over all the people that bought a wii U for rayman legends. I wanted to buy it, i bought a wii U for it. Now i’m not buying it. I’ll pick up lego city instead.” - Jordan Powderley.

“BOYCOTT OF RAYMAN LEGENDS !! WHY SHIFT UNTIL SEPTEMBER FOR WII U ? TEMPORARY EXCLUSIVELY ON WII U IT WAS POSSIBLE. THE GAME IS FINISH. I CANCEL MY RESERVATION” - Arnaud Bastard.

Those people sound pretty upset to me. Ubisoft’s essentially confirmed that it’s sitting on a complete game right now, that you just can’t have because they’re being a bunch of dicks. It wouldn;t really be the first time Ubisoft’s stuck its middle finger up at fans; PC gamers have until recently been shafted by the company’s abusive and draconian DRM policies, they’ve released “exclusive” pre-order goodies as paid DLC, they’ve turned Sam Fisher in to Jason Bourne and they actually had the nerve to release Assassin’s Creed 3.

What do you think though? Do Wii U owners have the right to be pissed? Or is this just another case of gamers being entitled, whiny crybabies? I will say, for my part…I’m not heartbroken about the delay or the fact that the games going multiplatform – but I do think sitting on a completed game just so you can release all platforms simultaneously is a bit of a silly thing to do.

Now if you’ll excuse me…I’m off to play the Rayman Legends demo. For the next seven months.

I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces. I am also the emperor of the backend
