Mass Effect
Space colonization, intolerance, vigilantism, and artificial intelligence. This is what Mass Effect is all about. And once again I feel kind of sad for the Playstation 3 owners, as this is another title which will most likely never do the Sony shuffle. Shame guys, this is yet another great RPG title which will never touch your eager little geek fingers.
Mass Effect features one of the most compelling storylines that I’ve seen in a video game in a long time, with a multitude of changes constantly taking place during your gaming experience thanks to its extremely diverse dialogue choices. Besides from the ability to shape your path in whichever manner you prefer, Mass Effect also allows the player to create his or her own character with a character moulding engine which contains a set of sculpting tools that are so specific with the appearance of your character that, if you want him to look like you, he’ll look like you.
I really have to give it to Bioware for creating this unique galactic adventure, because the basic concept around what Mass Effect is, is truly riveting and all together mind blowing. Project Director Casey Hudson explained the term “Mass Effect” as follows:
Inside the game universe, mass effect is a newly discovered (for humans anyway) physics phenomenon that has properties along the lines of other physics forces such as gravity and electromagnetism. It’s what physicists in real life are currently calling “dark energy”, as an explanation for the accelerating expansion of the universe — which has only recently been discovered and flies in the face of the previous notion that the universe’s expansion should be slowing down because of gravity.
To be blunt, if you haven’t played this title you’re losing out on a galactic adventure that not only enthrals you with it’s vast universe, but pits you in the middle of a war for the fate of the solar system, where every choice you make, ultimately affects the fate of the human race.
