PS3 to outsell the Xbox 360 by 3.5 Million this year Popular
   May 27th, 2010 clock image 10:30 am

3ConsoleControllers

David Mercer, an analyst from Strategy Analytics, has put together a report stating that they think the PS3 will sell a total of 14 million units in this year compared to 10.5 million for the Xbox 360.

The Wii’s sales will continue to decline but will still be leading the pack with 17.5 million sales in the year.

He puts the PS3’s sales surge down to the price cuts and slim model announced last year while the Xbox 360 has simply been treading water while they develop the Project Natal.

Personally I find his predications a little low as I really do think the introduction of PS Move and Project Natal will fire up the sales towards the end of the year and I expect the sales to be closer than 3.5 million apart.

Mind you if GT5 releases this holiday season then I would expect Sony to pull away in the silly season.

Project Natal once again reported to cost R1500

Did you see the Metacritic rating for SMG2 , the Wii will keep on selling well if they bring the software to the table.

    • ewie

Have to agree, both the ps3 and Xbox need more games like Nintendo make, Hopefully Rare can pull a few surprises and bring us the games we expect from them.

Viva Pinata and Nuts and Bolts were fun, but it is not games you want to play over and over like some nintendo games.

  • AlKi

its sad that almost halfway throug a consoles life the good games come…y buy a console on launch and pay a massive amount of cash if u have to wait 3 years for good games???i mean even the xbox360 thats so “easy” to develop for…alan wake took 5 FREAKEN years….id be Pissed off if i was a 360 owner!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1366662959 Mitchell Taljaard

      and a ps3 owner

      • ewie

        Still waiting for GT5

    • RSA-Ace

It takes time to have a full understanding of new architecture. There is now way the release games will even come close in comparison to the midway and end life of a console. Look at the difference between the PS2 games that were coming out.

  • eltonriley

It feels strange for me to say this considering I was a huge 360 supporter (fanboy?) since launch, but I hope Sony continues to do well. They truly deserve it. Their commitment to quality and their great library deserves the rewards.

    • Bobby Kotick acts like a fine gentleman

The irony is eltonriley, quite a few of us were in the same boat. I guess we all got caught up in the late 2006 Microsoft sales hype (not to mention, Sony was shooting itself in the foot with the music CD DRM rootkit fiasco and then the price of the first PS3s were revealed… oy…), but ultimately the shoddy quality of the xbox was revealed to us all (3 or 5 RRODs later), and we acted like smart and informed consumers.

It could be worse, we could still be defending the 360.

      • Bonk

I was very worried when Sony lost all their exclusives in 2006 and the stellar 2007 that M$ had, but I stuck with Sony knowing that the quality was good, and software would follow. As for it being a blu-ray player….well it is certainly the best one. Not to mention that they supported Linux for a long time and your ps3 could also help find the cure to cancer. It only does everything. But well done to M$, competition is healthy.

  • Fred

I am more than happy with what Sony has delivered so far for the ps3 . It has taken a while but the current library is excellent for both HD consoles.

  • Fox1

Yeah BUT there are a whole bunch of PS3′s that are sitting around as Blu-Ray players

Oh and BTW whats up with the local specials on the XBox 360 Arcade + Halo ODST + Forza 3 for R1999. It has being around for quite a while.

I would be more happy if the RRP of new games were dropped down to R499. Then we all would be scoring :w00t:

    • riezo

Yeah but so Many Xbox’ are lying around being used as 3 red lit door stops, and so many others being sold for $70 after MS banned them from Live for piracy.

      • Bobby Kotick agrees with Riezo

I absolutely agree Riezo, but you have to give credit where credit is due. Microsoft’s replacement system for RRODed xboxes should be congratulated. They could have easily dug their heels in and played “I am an ostrich” (which probably would have meant the end of the console).

Granted of course, the replacement warranty wasn’t enough to keep me from jumping ship, but you have to give credit where credit is due.

The biggest thorn in my side though is the fact that they’ve indefinitely shelved supported xbox live for the rest of the world. It still annoys me that India actually received supported Live and we didn’t. I just won’t pay full price for a product, where much of the features are blocked for me.

India? INDDIA Microsoft?? INDDIIIAA?? :pouty: :wassat:

        • riezo

Credit hereby given for tackling the issue http://teach-ology.org/files/AppleButtons/Slide22.jpg

        • eltonriley

Bobby, I hear you about giving credit where it is due, and the customer really did score, but please try to take a look at it from this angle: The perception of Microsoft being hero’s for their stance on replacements, is totally misplaced. Of course I too would love to give credit where it is due (seriously) but their replacement policy was self serving. They were an eyelash away from class action lawsuit due to the 33%-50% failure rate. That is apart from the fact that the developers themselves would have sued for loss of income (or whatever) due to only 50% of the people having working consoles and nobody to buy their software. So in essence, they were (almost legally) bound to do it or they would have sunk the entire gaming division within MS. So yes the consumer did benefit, but only because Microsoft were in a corner. But the million dollar question is, if their failure rate was anything near normal, would they have offered the same kind of replacement offer? Somehow, I doubt it.

lol , could of been worse , imagine swaziland got live and we didn? lol

lol, imagine if Swaziland did get it, it would only be King Whatsisname (the one with all those wives) with xbox live.

Halo tournaments with the Swazi parliament yo!

  • Parker

India are one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Not to mention the fact there’s a billion people there. Maybe that had something to do with it. Just maybe…

    • ewie

      No

It was done so that microsoft support staff can use it.

      • http://www.facebook.com/adolph.visagie Adolph Current

        Aye!

  • Parker

And there’s only support staff in India?

    • http://www.facebook.com/adolph.visagie Adolph Current

Yes! With really fake American accents. I actually find it nauseating, and I really can’t stand it.

Adolph: “Good morning is this Xbox support? My xbox doesn’t want to switch on”
Tech Support: “Haaii these ess “Mike” frum Seaaattle Micccrroosuft Leeev soport”.

      Adolph hungs up! :getlost:

Why can’t they at least use South Africans for their support staff. We are known to have a neutral accent, and even the most retarded denizen from East London can understand us.

      • http://www.facebook.com/adolph.visagie Adolph Current

Lol! and no, I don’t mean East London in the Eastern Cape.

  • AlKi

This hole RROD thing!I mean when u think about it,im not sure how many consoles microsoft shipd but really think about it!How many of those consoles are still working?lets say it wos 40Mil does that mean 20mil “people” actually own a xbox?my friend got his xbox begining 2007,his on his 3rd console!!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/adolph.visagie Adolph Current

I get what you’re saying Alki, but regardless, a sale is a sale. It doesn’t matter if half of those consoles are now sitting on the scrapheap or in Fox1′s MS fanboi museum (where’s he’s rubbing the plastic husks on his nipples). The fact of the matter is they (Microsnake) conned us. We bought multiple consoles and they ran laughing to the bank.

I guess the same argument stands for the Wii, even my sister and my grandmother have one, and Granny probably hasn’t used it in months. The wii is dominating based on its reputation as a casual gamers wet dream. They also produce all sorts of shovelware, but because it’s aimed at everyone including grannies, bored housewives and pro-wrestlers, it’s currently the highest selling console.

      • http://www.facebook.com/adolph.visagie Adolph Current

I’d just like to add, you’ll notice that “real” gamers rarely even mention the Wii, and that’s because the console is a joke. It’s a crying shame that it’s done so well, but that’s “we sell lots of peripherals” Nintendo for you.
