Official 17 minute Battlefield 4 Gameplay Trailer

Battlefield4

we posted that leaked trailer earlier this morning which has gotten all the juices flowing for a full HD Battlefield 4 gameplay footage and thankfully EA have obliged.

The only problem is that at the time of writing that video isn’t released yet, so I can’t say anything about it but what I can do is use my years of experience to guess.

There will be loud bangs, baysplosions, tons of guns, manly military talk and tanks… lots of tanks.

Also according to the teaser trailer we are going to be having some sea battles of some sort and I fully expect to see realistic destruction, team work, huge maps and some amazing sniping skills.

Let’s see how close I get, the video will be below as soon as we see the embed code arrive.

Panic, EA dropped the trailer earlier to fight the leaks… here it is right now

I'm cranky, arrogant and ever so amazingly annoying but when you get to know me you will also realise I'm honest and incredibly good at describing myself... now pass me that beer

Don't stop now.... you're having a good time

    Looking good.

The amount of finer detail in this trailer is just fantastic. At least we know what we see here we will get in multiplayer too.
    No GearBox BS.
    Pre Orders open? :)

  • http://twitter.com/Goodstuph1980 Gustav Minnie

Also… was that guy’s leg made of butter or is that the new SE Rambo knife?

    • http://www.twitter.com/WobblyOnion Exalted Overlord Geoffrey Tim

He did say in the trailer that his bones were crushed to powder; a decently sharp knife would have no real trouble with a knee sans bone.

      • http://twitter.com/Goodstuph1980 Gustav Minnie

I have the Shogun kitchen knife set and it IS the sharpest and strongest knifes out there. You can read it on the box.
I cannot one slice my chicken breasts, so are you tell me I’m a infomercial sucker?

        • http://www.twitter.com/WobblyOnion Exalted Overlord Geoffrey Tim

Yeah. My dad’s a butcher – and he gave me a set of knives that i’m actually afraid to even use. They’ll cut a finger clean off.

          • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

*goes over for supper at Geoffs*

Hey Geoff, this stew is amazing! What’s in it?

Geoff: Well, you know, the usual beef, knorr, my left index finger… That kinda stuff

    • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

      Clearly that’s a Bear Grylls knife… cough cough! :P

      • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

Cuts off leg. Pisses on it to disinfect :P

        • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

          like a.. BEAR!

  • OVG

All looks like real life. I would love to see a Fallujah game using this engine. Just think of all that helmet cam footage that they can use. Some of it is on Youtube and gives Black Hawk Down a run for its money.

REAL LIFE with REAL GRAPHICS. EA already have very authentic RADIO VOICE PROCEDURE and sound effects thanks to getting Andy Mc Nab (AKA HEAT BANK ROBBERY) to advise.

Its getting there but we all know that 2 thirds of the production values are pumped into on-line play.

    • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

Well, let’s be fair. Battlefield is focused on almost pure online play. But one can hold out for the hope that they give some proper love to the SP portion for a change

      • OVG

I would be happy if the single player was 90 minutes long but no cut and paste. Just set piece after set piece.

It makes DIE HARDER ANOTHER DAY look like the Telly Tubbies.

        HOLLYWOOD better watch out

        • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

You see that’s where my issue comes in. If it’s only 90 minutes then I am paying premium price for only 90minutes of gameplay.

Unlike most I cannot really enjoy the online portion of this game. My 3G connection just simply isn’t good enough and I can’t afford ADSL as it is. So I really need the SP to be longer in all honesty before I will consider purchasing :(

    • Deon Steyn

This is where I envy the PC, the graphics.

      • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

I doubt my machine is going to be able to handle this on max lol. BF3 was already dipping my machine down to 45FPS on Ultra. So BF4 will definitely not run very smoothly on Ultra for me.

  • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

I laughed so hard at that intro music. Hehe.

Ok, this honestly looks like the SP could actually be good for a change. Let’s just hope it isn’t too short. As it always is.

    • Deon Steyn

Open world they said, so it should be a bit longer because that normally means side quests. I feel like we are a pack of wolfs getting a sniff of a deer over the hill and we are so hungry.

      • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

Not being a wolf :) I am actually honestly hoping that the SP gets some proper love this time. Really. I want the game to succeed.

I’m worried that their “open world” is the same as Crysis 2 which was “Open world” but actually was “railroad play with a few tracks running in the same general direction but just allowed a slightly different approach”… With all the same scenery…

        That’s all.

        • Deon Steyn

Indeed, I’m really hoping the same and if it is truly open world… my word the possibilities.

        • oomjan

well I rather have a crappy single player but amazing multiplayer

          • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

Hence why I said I hope they have given SP some love. The game would be a huge success if it can draw both SP and MP player bases in.

It’s a missed opportunity when you don’t pull in the SP guys because those SP guys may just turn to the MP if the game was really good.

        • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

I wouldn’t mind open-world like Arma 2 or even something like Operation Flashpoint, where there’s still a linearity to missions but the objectives can be approached in a number of different ways.

          • http://twitter.com/ClericZA Kobus Nel

To be honest, I got the ARMA 3 alpha, and when I checked it out this weekend I was reminded at why I didn’t play ARMA 2. The aiming SUCKS! Horizontal mouse sensitivity is X and vertical sensitivity is something like X/8 or something ridiculous. So to get it the same I have to do troubleshooting on mouse axis sensitivity settings till I get it the way it should be. Frak that sh!t! Who the hell codes a game to have such stupid aiming mechanics? Fail.

      • Verrayne

I red somewhere the campaign will be between 4 and 6 hours long.

        • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

Well well well. 4 – 6 hours of the above action packed gameplay and I am in. I will however approach this wit my usual caution. Wait for it to come out, wait for reviews to hit and then decide.

          • Deon Steyn

You know the reviews will be good. It always is. What’s interesting is if one checks out the user reviews on Metacritc. The COD ones are funny.

          • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

The reviews are always good for the game and are always focused on the MP and always kinda just brush off the SP.

I will get the game if the reviews all state that the SP was great because for a reviewer to bother mentioning how great the SP was for a BF game would mean it was actually good.

          • Twakkie

Didnt LG do two reviews? One for SP and one for MP? IMO that is the best approach.

          • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

            I believe they did? I can’t remember?

But yes, that is the best way to approach it. Or at least do 1 review with 2 clear sections. One for SP and one for MP.

But it’s still a while for this to release so I shall wait and see.

    • Twakkie

I am going to give the benefit of the doubt. I enjoyed the SP in BF3. Nothing to write home about but it was entertaining most of the times. Dont ask me what the story was about though, something about a nuke and Russians and being interviewed or something.
Hopefully there is story which binds you a bit better than BF3. More emotions and less bang-bang-boom-boom.

      • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

And lots of talk about Misfit or something… Yeah… that was the problem with the BF3 SP. It was unmemorable.

        • Twakkie

Think EA forced Dice hand in so many of the direction chooses during the SP production. It felt exactly like a COD game too me. Just as unmemorable and stale as most military shooters out in recent years. Lets hope EA learned out of the feedback on BF3 SP, though I doubt it, and let DICE make the best game they can.

          • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

I absolutely agree, I despised the soulless SP (while I’ve always lauded the MP), but BF3 tried to be COD, when it should have done its own thing. i.e. Find its own legs.

          • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

Or lose them legs in this case…..

          • Twakkie

Damn, you beat me too it :P

          • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

Exactly, I think BF3 tried to showcase the engine in the SP, but then tried to tie all the setpieces together with one of the lamest stories ever. I mean, Warfighter’s storyline was more emotional and raw, because it put the characters first (except for the cleric, which I still think was a huge missed opportunity).

    • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

Turn around…. Every now and then I get a little bit lonely …. And you’re never coming round. Sniff! Sniff!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=530827787 Jean Jordaan

You don’t buy a Battlefield game for the SP campaign. Its the epic MP game play and maps and guns and vehicles etc. Its like buying a new Ferrari and complaining that there is not enough cup holders. You get the car for the drive.

For all that I care they can drop it all together, stop wasting time with that. That will give the developers more time and resources to polish off the MP experience and get the game out quicker.

      • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

I know. Hence why I don’t buy BF in general. Not because I don’t think it’s great. It’s just interwebz limitations.

However, it’s a huge missed opportunity to draw some extra players to the game if the SP is bad. If you can draw the SP guys in and even get just a 10% conversion on those guys to switch over to the MP because they want more, then you have won and have grown a dedicated fan base.

But that will not happen if the SP guys don’t have something to enjoy at first because they would never buy the game otherwise.

So yea, there are things to consider such as development cost for the SP portion with voice actors, story writers etc, but I think the benefits would far outweigh the drawbacks of making sure both aspects are fantastic.

  • OVG

I was in the Army for 5 years and I just got a boner when I saw the Iron sight on the right of the scope :)

    • Deon Steyn

      Lol any flashbacks?

      • OVG

The first minute was more action than I ever had lol. But the sound effects are as real as real gets. LOVE THE TINKER sound of empty shell casings :)

        • Ultimo_Cleric_N7

hmmm. Might just but this one

          • Deon Steyn

            But? hehe

          • Ultimo_Cleric_N7

hahaha! Saw a picture of Emma Stone earlier and now I cant think straight.

          • Deon Steyn

            Nice!

  • Kingkappie

    give me, give me…… now!!!

  • Deon Steyn

The song reminds me of the scene in Three Kings where they are driving and the song “If You Leave Me Now” plays http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqnCOs0X7Hc

    • http://twitter.com/ClericZA Kobus Nel

      LOL

  • Zero-Cool

    Meh, so over military shooters.

    • Kingkappie

this is not any military shooter this is B4

      • http://twitter.com/SaveTheQueenIX umar bastra

        There’s a difference?

      • Twakkie

        Lol you troll

      • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

        No…. This is… SPAAARTAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/SaveTheQueenIX umar bastra

looks beautiful wow, but still, it’s just battlefield …. use that engine for some new IP, heck even mirror’s edge 2 … It’s hard to get excited over the same type of game year in and year out ….

  • LordCaptainAwesomeness

Ahhh Damnit. And I had sworn no more Shooters… there goes that out the window..

  • Twakkie

Nice! Hopefully their will be some kind of story behind BF4 and not just a linear Bay-splosions game like BF3. I have no problem with corridor shooters as long as the game binds me.

  • The…Other…SITH

My GOD! This looks AMAZING!! BF3 was incredible if only the MP part (plus all DLC)

But this? this is just on a level beyond anything I thought “next-gen” could look like….

Hope they pull this off on PS4….

Imagine if they did thief in frostbite 2.5?

    • Twakkie

Hahaha, let me quote you quickly: “Meh, so over military shooters.” So now you change your attitude, ne? Lekker ‘n draadsitter :P

      • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

Sometimes… a man sees a pretty thing, and his brain goes to jelly :P

      • The…Other…SITH

Wait what? Do you even know me? this my 1st comment on this site…

        • Twakkie

Yes, I am the one that goes boo in the night :P
Lol no sorry dude, Disqus had a error where you had the same name as a guy who commented just before you. That or my brain is still waking up….neeeed moaaaar coffeeeee

          • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

Lol. Now now Twakkie. Play nice with the other kids. This isn’t COD bru. We don’t whine….. :P #trolol

          • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

            HAHAHAHAHA!

          • Twakkie

Damn these COD tendencies. You think you have kicked your bad habits and then suddenly they flare up again. I suddenly started seeing “E” in front of me for all actions…

          • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

            Press E to reply: “LOL”

    • Ultimo_Cleric_N7

Imagine Mass Effect 4 on this engine…..*drools

      • loftie

deus ex 1 on this engine!

  • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

Just one thing… They should have chosen someone to play who could actually aim properly…. Just saying……

    • oomjan

who cares about htat. for me it’s not about getting headshot all the time. it’s about showing off the game

      • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

It’s called sarcasm buddy. It’s not a statement meant to be taken seriously.

    • Deon Steyn

      Dumbass can hardly drive.

      • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

Look! A pole! Let’s drive in to it! Hehehehehe

      • http://twitter.com/ClericZA Kobus Nel

LOL ja, saw that too. Hit the barrier and starts spraying and praying lol

    • http://twitter.com/ClericZA Kobus Nel

      Yup… console controllers. Fail :P

      • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

That’s one thing I still stand in awe of though. When someone who actually is good on a controller (not this guy in the video) picks it up and makes it look easy to aim in a way that would put a mouse user to shame I just go “woah”

      • Deon Steyn

The analog stick makes it easy for precise aiming once zoomed in, but the mouse will always be king.

  • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

Geoff broke the news to me on Skype, while I was sipping some coffee. I immediately dropped everything, told the boss to eat my shoes (aka faked a stomach bug), thus skipping a meeting, and quickly popped onto LG to say:

“The 17 minute sneak preview of the single player campaign had more soul than the whole 5-6 hour campaign of Battlefield 3. I want this for PS4.. Daddy Jim needs to save some coins… No more MCDONALDS!! ALL MONEY MUST GO INTO THE GAMING FUND.”

    • http://twitter.com/ClericZA Kobus Nel
      • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

In DiCE we trust! All hail the DiCE! (AN-94 is OP)

        • http://twitter.com/ClericZA Kobus Nel

Meh, I prefer the AEK :)

          • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

Lol speaking of OP guns (in BF3), the M39 sniper’s rifle is insane! I know it’s terrible and very COD to do this, but the other day, I equipped a suppressor, RDS and foregrip and went to town.

I ended the match 39/4. I actually felt bad for those that fell before my boom stick…

          • http://twitter.com/ClericZA Kobus Nel

Yup. Anyone using a semi auto sniper rifle in my eyes, should simply be banned for being a douche-bag n00b! You want to snipe? Do the honorable thing and use a bolt action rifle!

          • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

Hahaha I know, but the M39 brings out the dick in all of us. It has the power of a shotgun, but the burst speed of a handgun. It’s sickeningly OP.

          • http://twitter.com/ClericZA Kobus Nel

            Indeed. It’s Elton John.

          • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

HAHAHAHA! A new meme is created!

          • http://twitter.com/ClericZA Kobus Nel

Hehe. Many servers kick or block the word “gay” so we had to come up with an alternative :P

I lol’d. Comment of the week!

    • http://twitter.com/ClericZA Kobus Nel

Yeah, but showed he doesn’t take shit even from the jaws of them dogs! :)

  • http://twitter.com/ClericZA Kobus Nel

See, I just can’t get over the fact that he’s playing with a controller… and it also shows he can’t aim for shit. Everything else is just SO MUCH WIN! :D

  • CypherGate0

what is it with these Call Of Duty style artwork?

    • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

That gets up my goat as well – although I think the header is photoshopped from Black Ops 1 or 2. lol. If it isn’t shame on you, DiCE!

I actually liked the cover for Bad Company 1. It was stylish and different. Ever since COD4, EA/DiCE has been emulating their competitor with cover styles.

  • http://twitter.com/ClericZA Kobus Nel

See, now THAT’S where our Premium costs went! An investment I’m proud to have supported :D

The 17 minutes just turned into 4:51…. How does that happen? I loaded it earlier so that I don’t have to wait for the buffer every 5 seconds…. (Early bird catches the worm or is it early bird gets to see full 17 minutes not just 5…. crap head….)

  • http://twitter.com/NoodleZA Jarrod Lane

Yeah sorry that’s BF 3.5, not as big a jump as I would expect from a new engine.

Remember Bad Company 1 to 2 both used Frostbite 1 the later was frostbite 2.0. BF3 runs Frostbite 2 and the jump was mad. Looking at this it seems more inline with the jump from bad company 1 to 2.

Also all that hype about the destruction engine being more like what Bad company was like that BF3, not seeing that either.

Will keep watching to see what comes of it, but so far not too overly impressed with it. Better, but not “next Gen” better.
