No PlayStation 4 at E3, says Sony Popular

PS4no

Rumours have been swirling thick that both Microsoft and Sony would be debuting their next-generation hardware at E3 this year, taking the wind out of Nintendo’s Wii-U powered sails. According to Sony, that’s just not happening.

Both Sony Computer Entertainment and parent Sony Corp. have come out in strong denial of the rumours – so you can rein in your enthusiasm and put off getting that second job. For now.

Speaking to CVG,  Sony Computer Entertainment’s Andrew House put paid to the rumours.

"I don’t think we’re contemplating talking about anything to do with future console iterations at this point,” he said."But one thing I always point to is that, somewhat in contrast to our major competitors, we have, particularly with PS2, managed the length of the lifecycle and ensured its profitability for our publishing partners for a much longer lifecycle than has been true of the competition.

Sony’s Kaz Hirai, speaking to Wall Street Journal  reiterated House’s stance.

"Andy (House) is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3. I’ve always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that."

Sony’s invested in the PS3 for the long haul – So no PS4 at E3, which is…disappointing. Still, there’s always Gamescom and TGS right? It makes sense from a business perspective. Sony’s just launched their next-generation handheld, the PlayStation Vita, and is intent on pushing that as much as possible. Announcing new hardware now would just dilute the excitement gamers have for the handheld. The problem is, with Microsoft apparently ready to fire out their next console, Sony could be stuck in the same situation we’ve had with the PS3 – slow momentum and an uphill battle against the general American’s console of choice.

Don’t they have the capacity or will to stay in the game anymore. And we have to put up with terrible frame rates for (almost double the price) AAA games.

    • Theuberutang

Double the price compared to what?

      PC? Yes.
360? No. Same price per game.
      Wii? AAA games – LOL

No one would actually admit it if they were announcing it at E3. Too much of an opportunity for a suprise punch to the opposition to pass up on.

we still get amazing games don’t we? I’m totally happy with my PS3. I’ll just be patient.

    • T-wholf

Very Happy!!!!!! The Focus will be on getting games out as opposed to new ones for a ps4!! its too early for the next  generation of consoles!

  • http://twitter.com/JimLenoir James Lenoir

    Quite frankly Games > Consoles.

I’d rather Sony continue delivering on awesome AAA titles, while the competition continues to squirt out Kinect fail. Also, they’ve just released the Vita in Japan, so it’ll be best to space new hardware, instead of throwing all their eggs in one basket (cough one year).

By the way, what I would like to see is microsoft recommitting themselves to core gamers. However at the moment, it seems the xbox 720 will be trying to be a Wii-lite (since it’s clear that microsoft is trying to run after the casual market). That means, I might just skip the new xbox console all together.

  • Theuberutang

next Xbox will be like the new samsung smart tvs.

Build in kinect and with a processor and ram in there for games.

So basically current xbox + kinect build into a screen, running windows 8 flavour

  • Genialus75

hi-def gaming was the main focus when the present generation of consoles came about… (except for the wii)

then the wii had gone successful with motion control and what not… the ps3 followed suit with the move and the 360 had it’s kinect…

then if you want 3D gaming, ps3 also has you covered…

what could be the main focal point that could compel average joe gamer to upgrade to PS4 or X720? sure there are things like improved A.I. or even higher definition resolutions can be suggested but it isn’t compelling enough!

besides, titles like hitman absolution, the tombraider reboot, naughty dog’s the last of us, the last guardian and halo 4 are still in the pipeline!
