It was just the other day that I was complaining about the unnecessary addition of multi-player to traditionally single-player games. Well, looks like Team Ninja’s third modern Ninja Gaiden game will be getting just that. Oh, and lots more blood – because Ninja Gaiden 2 didn’t have enough of the sticky red stuff, apparently.
According to Team Ninja’s Yosuke Hayashi the story will also focus on the ninja’s psyche and obvious inner turmoil; you don’t going about haphazardly chopping off people’s limbs without there being something wrong with you.
“We are focusing Ryu as a dark Japanese hero,” he said to Gamesthirst . “There won’t be new playable characters, but we’ll focus more deeply on Ryu Hyabusa’s life and lifestyle and feelings and thoughts. We are trying to take the violent concepts even deeper and make people realise how it feels to actually kill someone and what it is to actually gut someone. It’s very important to us that people realise that violence is not only about blood and gore.” I have to wonder if the devs really know what that feels like…
Hayashi also talked up the game’s “complex multiplayer mode”, as well as the series’ notorious difficulty. “We know that many fans feel good about the difficulty level, but we are taking a slightly different approach,” explained Hayashi.”It’s not that the game’s going to be easier – nothing like that. It’s just that we are trying to make a whole game, a more exciting game that can be enjoyed by anyone.”
I don’t know..it seems like the new, Itagaki-free Team Ninja is taking everything that made the the first remix of Ninja Gaiden – Ninja Gaiden Black on the original Xbox – so great, and completely removing all of those elements. After playing through their last game, Metroid Other M for the Wii, I will however remain cautiously optimistic.
